Like most touristy destinations, the city center is always the highlight of our travel experience, whether you go to any country of the world.
To experience exciting moments in Amsterdam, I went to capture the fantastic lights in the city center as I was incredibly surprised to see stunning photographs on social media that this city has a lot to offer.
During the winter months, the lights are eye-catching, shining, shimmering, and sophisticated. Each year Amsterdam is becoming more and more illuminated during the holiday season.
Seeing these attractive lights by strolling is one of the most calming sensations if you wanted to take a breather.
For a first-time traveler or if you are having a short layover for 2 hours in the late afternoon or evening, I highly recommend hopping to Amsterdam Centraal, which provides an ideal spot, a must-see destination to be included in one of your travel adventures!
These photographs were taken in just an hour for locals who are already familiar with the locations from Amsterdam Centraal Station; nevertheless, as an avid photographer, taking photos from various angles would take some time.
If you go on foot, it will take you about 20 minutes to explore these places.
The most famous destinations, where the majority of the lights can be found at the Dam Square and the surrounding area.
Every Christmas season, they set up a huge Christmas tree in front of the Royal Palace of Amsterdam.
The Dam square is the central highlight and one of the busiest areas close to the Amsterdam Central Station. There will never be a boring moment chillin’ here due to tons of shops, restaurants, interesting architectures, and museums to explore, it's no wonder that the Dam Square is one of the top favorite list worth visiting advised by travelers!
The shopping center is just beside the Damrak namely Kalverstraat and Nieuwendijk. There are numerous stores to choose from high-end products and good-quality goods.
The Damstraatjes is one of the oldest city centers in Amsterdam, it is so crowded yet lively, energetic, with tons of coffee shops, takeaway food, souvenir shops, and catering around.
Ever heard and been curious about the Red Light District? Then go further around Damstraatjes. You don't need a tour guide to discover the Red Light District. Just stroll around you can easily find the red light windows where legal prostitutes displayed themselves wearing barely-naked clad promoting their service in the red illuminated windows. However, keep in mind that taking pictures of prostitutes is highly prohibited!
You can also see sex museums, sex shops, and live sex shows. Visit the Red Light District in the late afternoon from 5 o'clock until nighttime and discover how life is there. Unfortunately, due to the current Covid restriction, the Red Light District is temporarily closed.
De Waag is by far my favorite place, If you are craving Asian food, this is a perfect spot to see a lot of Asian restaurants such as Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, Taiwanese, Japanese, Indian to name a few.
Witnessing the Amsterdam Light Festival, which takes place from December 2 to January 23, offers a unique experience to consider for the coming year, but it has been postponed due to the Covid Restrictions.
The Amsterdam Light Festival is renowned for celebrating the beauty of lights. The artistic lighting installation in various locations is awe-striking and enticingly welcoming, with a plethora of interactive exhibitions in connection to the joint efforts of creative minds. The good thing is that Amsterdam Light Festivals change to numerous themes each year.
