A Lovely Walk Around Carsington Reservoir

We paid another another visit to Carsington Reservoir. The weather was reasonably ok apart from being a little chilly. There's quite a few benches on the way if you want a breather or to look at the view, including the Valve Tower in the middle of the lake that controls the flow of water.

We did a longer walk today, including a lap of the lake and along the dam. It was nice to have firm footpaths underfoot instead of muddy fields. It's less effort not having to get your feet out of the sludge.

There are numerous water sport courses for both adults and children, including sailing, canoeing and paddleboarding. We stayed on terra firma though.

We saw different kinds of birds on this visit including the wheatear (above), which I've never seen before.

Even with all the water around, the Canada geese usually feed on land rather than in the water.

It's a beautiful reservoir, and there are plenty of different walks on offer depending on your ability. Or you can just sit and watch the birds near the cafe have a good feed!
