Living in the city has its advantages and disadvantages. There's no doubt that the city provides the comfort of modern living and the amenities of establishments like shopping malls and commercial complexes. Over the years, I’ve grown very comfortable living in the city, and I don’t see myself retiring to the countryside anytime soon.
That being said, every once in a while, I feel the strain of city life and yearn for something different. There are times when my body and spirit crave serenity, fresh air, and a connection with nature.
I feel fortunate that my city offers all the modern comforts I need while also providing an escape right in the heart of the metropolis. Last Sunday, I visited the Botanical Garden to experience a different world within my world.
I want to take this opportunity to share with you the glimpses I captured during my quest for serenity.
This enchanting gazebo sits at the heart of the Botanical Garden, a popular spot for wedding photography that radiates a distinct K-Drama vibe. The surrounding acacia trees, in their autumn-like stage, shower the area with falling yellow leaves, creating a magical atmosphere.
To reach the center of the garden, I wandered through a series of picturesque walkways, babbling streams, and towering trees. The journey was an incredible experience, making me feel truly removed from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I entered the Botanical Garden from Napier MRT station, greeted by a grand and impressive gate.
Just beyond the entrance, I discovered an information board showcasing a detailed map of the garden, inviting me to explore its hidden treasures.
From here, I found the fishpond that served as the home for a variety of small fishes.
They are the friendliest school of fish I’ve ever encountered. They followed my every movement, swimming wherever I went around the pond. It seems they’re quite accustomed to having people around and being fed.
From here, I embarked on my quest along the streams of water. I wasn’t sure why, but it felt natural to assume that the stream would lead me to somewhere wonderful.
What's truly calming about this quest through the garden is how the walkways curve and guide you toward areas filled with attractions. It feels like I'm being led on a journey, discovering more to see and experience at every turn.
One of the interesting parts of this journey is following the streams and listening to the splashing of water along the formation of rocks.
I was glad to find a resting place for me to take a short break.
From here, I followed a trail that led me to a place where I felt small. The trees are so huge that everything looks like from the prehistoric era.
As I wandered along this path lined with tall trees, I discovered a reservoir where swans are known to roam. Though I didn't spot any swans in the area, a stunning statue captured the majestic flight of these birds over the manmade lake.
As I continued my journey through the garden, I discovered it had become a sanctuary for the working class. Many of those here today had toiled tirelessly throughout the week.
This garden has allowed them to temporarily escape from their busy work life and be immersed in the life-giving force of nature.
