Ly Son island - Paradise surrounded by ocean

The next destination in my life’s journey is a beautiful island in the south of Viet Nam created by a volcano, resting in the deep blue sea, it’s called Ly Son island

How to get to Ly Son Island

Ly Son island belongs to Quang Ngai province in the south of Vietnam and it’s quite far from the main land. To get to the island, tourists must take a speed boat from Sa Ky Port for 50 minutes, riding on big waves to reach the island where many exciting things await.

Exploring the beauties in Ly Son Island

Founded a hundred years ago by Nguyen Dynasty, Ly Son became an important border island in Vietnam. Its location far from the mainland makes life for people living there quite difficult. Most of the local’s livelihoods come from fishing and stuff they catch from the ocean. Living accommodations on Ly Son are very poor quality and the soil is sandy so crops like rice, potato, and corn struggle to grow. However, people here still try to cover the sandy fields with the green color of onion and garlic crops as they are the only plants that can survive enough to earn a decent wage. The sea food on Ly Son island is very plentiful and yummy. Fishing boats return to shore daily carrying fresh hauls ready for cooking. Locals cook the seafood in the special way of indigenous people then serve it to their customers. The seafood is delicious and has a flavour you will never forget. The best time to visit Ly Son is from February to August when the ocean is calm but the sun is still strong and warm.

Ly Son island doesn’t have long sandy beaches, fancy hotels, or busy streets like Phu Quoc, Da Nang, or Nha Trang, but the small beaches are gorgeous and the color of the water is like a fantasic blue gem. A beautiful range of corals under the water can be seen from shore, and the landscapes were created by molten rock erupted from a big volcano million years ago which can be seen clearly from a high viewpoint.

There are so many places tourists shouldn’t miss when visiting Ly Son like:

To Vo Gate

To Vo Gate has a special shape like a rocky bridge or a big gate if we take a look from below, and it’s all created by lava! This is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset.

Hang Cau ( Cau Cave )

The next destination is Cau Cave where nature used the waves to dig a big Cave over millions of years. From the beach on Hang Cau we can also see the beautiful sunset, but tourists can find more interesting activities here such as swimming, snorkelling to explore the colorful coral, or camping inside the cave to enjoy the ocean vibes through the night.

Chua Hang ( Cave Pagoda )

There is a spiritual cave with a front view to the ocean where the people living on the island think Buddha and the Gods live and bless them every time they go out to sea. Therefore, locals always come to pray at this cave with the hope that they will receive some luck in their life.

Lighthouse

Built on top of the high hill, the lighthouse looks like a giant guard watching over the island. Despite the storms, it still holds the light leading fishermen home. You can see all the majestic scenery of the island and the ocean below from its perch.

In general not many tourists know about Ly Son Island because it’s a remote destination, and it doesn’t have an airport like Phu Quoc or Con Dao island. The only option is taking a boat from the mainland, which makes it difficult and inconvenient for visitors, but Ly Son Island is still a worthy destination to enjoy the best vibes from land and sea.

Thank you guys very much for spending your precious time to read and follow my life journey stories, hopefully the sun will come up to cover the dark of disease and new journey stories will be shared soon.
