Get to know a strategic point of the city of Mendoza (Argentina): San Martín Square
Good morning my dear friends of the Pinmapple community, I am happy to share with you a new place. It is a square in my city. I was really between showing you the main squares all together, or selecting the most emblematic ones and sharing them individually, and I have decided to do the latter because each one has a particular history and a strategic location and/or function in the city of Mendoza.
You see, Mendoza is the fourth largest city in Argentina and its expansion continues, getting closer and closer to Córdoba. Tourism, winemaking and lifestyle attract not only visitors but people from larger cities like Buenos Aires or even from abroad, to choose Mendoza as their new home. In fact, I know a guy from Barcelona (Spain) and a girl from Bordeaux (France), who have settled here.
This accelerated expansion of the city has been causing the places to take one form or another according to the needs of the population, and in this case what you will see is the square in the center of the financial area of the city.
Although there are other sectors clearly with ATMs or banks, the premises around Plaza San Martín are all banks, although there is also an example of the NH hotel chain, a church and the city's cultural building. The rest are all banks.

Conoce un punto estratégico de la ciudad de Mendoza (Argentina): Plaza San Martín
Buen día mis queridos amigos de la comunidad de Pinmapple, me alegra compartir con ustedes un nuevo lugar. Se trata de una plaza de mi ciudad. En verdad estaba entre mostrarles las plazas principales todas juntas, o seleccionar las más emblemáticas y compartirlas de manera individual, y he decidido hacer esto último debido a que cada una tiene una historia particular y una ubicación y/o función estratégica en la ciudad de Mendoza.
Verán, Mendoza es la cuarta ciudad más grande de Argentina y su expansión continúa, acercándose cada vez más a Córdoba. El turismo, la vitivinicultura y el estilo de vida atraen no solamente a visitantes sino a personas de ciudades más grandes como Buenos aires o incluso del extranjero, a elegir Mendoza como su nuevo hogar. De hecho, conozco a un chico de Barcelona (España) y a una chica de Burdeos (Francia), que se han instalado aquí.
Esta expansión tan acelerada de la urbe, ha ido provocando que los lugares tomen una u otra forma de acuerdo a las necesidades de la población, y en este caso lo que verán es la plaza que está en el centro del área financiera de la ciudad.
Si bien hay otros sectores claramente con cajeros automáticos o bancos, los locales que e encuentran alrededor de la Plaza San Martín, son todos bancos, aunque se suma un ejemplar de la cadena hotelera NH, una iglesia y el edificio de Cultura de la ciudad. El resto, son todos bancos.
The Liberator of America
Another peculiarity of this square is that it pays homage to Don José de San Martín, a character of extreme importance not only for the province, but for different countries of America, for being the one who liberated several countries.
Argentina, Chile and Peru were colonies of Spain, and this man, together with other characters of history, made them independent. For that reason he is known as the Liberator of America.
Something I love about the squares in Mendoza is that they are full of green. There are trees everywhere and beautifully manicured lawns. In fact, every time I walk through the green spaces of the city, now I value them more, after spending so much time away from here, because I see the effort they make to maintain this in pursuit of a better quality of life.

Otra particularidad que tiene esta plaza es que rinde homenaje a Don José de San Martín, un personaje de extrema importancia no para la provincia, sino para diferentes países de América, por ser quien liberó a varios países.
Argentina, Chile y Perú eran colonias de España, y este hombre, junto claro con otros personajes de la historia, los independizó. Por ese motivo se conoce como el Libertador de América.
Algo que amo de las plazas mendocinas es que están repletas de verde. Hay árboles por todos lados y césped muy bien cuidado. De hecho, cada vez que camino por los espacios verdes de la ciudad, ahora los valoro más, tras pasar tanto tiempo lejos de aquí, porque veo el esfuerzo que hacen para mantener esto en pos de una mejor calidad de vida.
Mendoza's priority towards its green spaces
You have had the opportunity to see Mendoza in its purest and most natural expression (or, well, you have been very close to seeing it that way), and it is very arid. So much so, that in some areas it has already become a very clear desert.
The city, built in the northern oasis created by the confluence of the rivers belonging to the Mendoza river basin, does its best to supply water to the population, but not only for human consumption, but also to sustain the green areas that are essential to retain toxic gases and cushion the consequences of them after the overwhelming urban expansion experienced in recent decades.
I have noticed, upon returning, that in other countries, although there are plazars with a lot of vegetation, they also have many others (I remember mainly those of Italy), with a predominance of construction materials. Therefore, given the geographical context of Mendoza, I think it is a blessing that we have this design in terms of recreational areas.
As you can see in the images, the Plaza San Martin acts as a recreation to the mind in the middle of these congested streets, so much so, that many people sit to enjoy the coolness generated by the shadows, to chat or simply to contemplate.
La prioridad de Mendoza hacia sus espacios verdes
Ya han tenido la oportunidad de ver a Mendoza en su expresión más pura y natural (o bueno, han estado muy cerca de verla así), y es muy árida. Tanto, que en sectores ya se ha convertido en un clarísimo desierto.
La ciudad, construida en el oasis norte gestado por la confluencia de los ríos pertenecientes a la cuenca del río Mendoza, hace lo posible por abastecer de agua a la población, pero no solo para consumo humano, sino también para sostener las áreas verdes que son fundamentales para retener gases tóxicos y amortiguar las consecuencias de los mismos tras la avasalladora expansión urbana experimentada en las últimas décadas.
He notado, al regresar, que en otros países si bien hay plazar con mucha vegetación, también tienen muchas otras (recuerdo principalmente las de Italia), con una predominancia de materiales de construcción. Por lo tanto, dado el contexto geográfico de Mendoza, creo que es una bendición que tengamos este diseño en lo querespecta a sectores de esparcimiento.
Como pueden ver en las imágenes, la Plaza San Martín actúa a modo de recreo a la mente en el medio de estas congestionadas calles, tanto, que muchas personas se sientan a disfrutar del frescor generado por las sombras, a charlar o simplemente a contemplar.
A key place
The church you see and that I took from the northwest corner of the square, corresponds to the Franciscan order, a religious group of Catholicism that preached and preaches strongly in the city (although it has lost much of the strength of religion today). It is the Basilica of San Francisco and is one of the most beautiful to visit in Mendoza.
For this reason I think this square is very particular, as it is the center of key exponents for the city as a Basilica on one side, Culture on the other, the entire financial area, and well, not for nothing is in front of this square the NH hotel, is a very strategic place to install a lodging, since the tourist center is two or three blocks away.
Un lugar clave
La iglesia que ven y que tomé desde la esquina noroeste de la plaza, corresponde a la orden de los Franciscanos, un grupo religioso del catolicismo que predicó y predica fuertemente en la ciudad (aunque se ha perdido mucho la fuerza de la religión actualmente). Se trata de la Basílica de San Francisco y es un ade las más bonitas para visitar en Mendoza.
Por este motivo creo que esta plaza es muy particular, ya que es el centro de exponentes clavepara la ciudad como una Basílica a un costado, Cultura a otro, toda el área financiera, y bueno, no por nada se encuentra frente a esta plaza el NH hotel, es un lugar bastante estratégico para instalar un alojamiento, ya que el pleno centro turístico está a dos o tres cuadras.
Tribute to the Great General
In the plaza you can see the images I took of the sculpture that pays homage to General José de San Martín and that points west. His images always point west because that is where the Andes Mountains are located, a natural barrier that he crossed in order to free Argentina from Spanish rule.

El homenaje al Gran General
En la plaza podrán ver las imágenes que tomé a la escultura que homenajea al General José de San Martín y que apunta al oeste. Sus imágenes siempre apuntan al oeste porque es donde se encuentra la cordillera de Los Andes, barrera natural que atravesó con el objeto de liberar a Argentina del dominio español.
En el suelo, han anotado las máximas que este hombre le dejó a su hija “Mercedita” (Mercedes) y que marcaron una especie de mandamientos en la historia de Mendoza. Como por el reflejo del sol no podrán verlas, las anotaré porque son muy bellas:
Humanizar el carácter y hacerlo sensible aún con los insectos que nos perjudican.

Again, I consider that this is a space of the province with a great educational charge, because from this square I can explain something of the distribution of the city of Mendoza, and also bring them closer to one of the most important and key heroes in the development not only of this city, but of the whole country.
