Dear friends of hive,
Sorry for missing these weeks, but I had an important university entrance exam, so I had to spend a lot of time on that.
Fortunately the exam went well! So today I am here to tell you about two beautiful stages that I had the good fortune to see, on my last trip to Sicily.

Scusate l’assenza di queste settimane, ma ho avuto un importante esame di ammissione all’università, quindi ho dovuto dedicare molto tempo a quello.
Fortunatamente l’esame è andato bene! Così oggi sono qui a raccontarvi di due bellissime tappe, che ho avuto la fortuna di vedere, nel mio ultimo viaggio in Sicilia.

PORTOPALO DI CAPOPASSERO
It is located in the province of Syracuse, Portopalo is a small town called the southernmost of Sicily.
This is what made us visit it! Portopalo di Capo Passero is located in the southernmost point of Sicily, even lower than Tunis and other cities in Africa.
In fact, it can be said that Sicily has the same climate and vegetation as some of the cities of northern Africa.
Si trova in provincia di Siracusa, Portopalo è un piccolo comune definito il più a sud della Sicilia.
Proprio questo ci ha spinti a visitarlo! Portopalo di Capo Passero si trova nel punto più a sud della sicilia, addirittura più bassa rispetto a Tunisi e altre città dell’Africa.
Infatti si può dire che la Sicilia ha lo stesso clima e la stessa vegetazione di parte delle città dell’Africa settentrionale.
This territory includes the island of Capo Passero and the Island of Currents.
The second, during high tide, becomes a full island, detached from the coast. It is still possible to get there by swimming.
On the island you can see a building with a U-shaped plan, which in the past was used as military barracks, now obviously abandoned.
In front of the island of Correnti, a statue of the redeemer Christ was placed with his arms open towards Sicily.
On the base is written on one side the Ionian Sea and the other Mediterranean Sea, this because it is precisely at that point that the meeting between the two seas takes place.
Di questo territorio fanno parte l’isola di Capo Passero e l’Isola delle Correnti.
La seconda, durante l’alta marea, diventa proprio un’isola a tutti gli effetti, staccata dalla costa. E’ comunque possibile arrivarci a nuoto.
Sull’isola è possibile vedere un edificio con pianta a U, che in passato veniva usato come caserma militare, oggi ovviamente dismesso.
Di fronte all’isola delle Correnti, è stata posta una statua del Cristo redentore con le braccia aperte verso la Sicilia.
Sul basamento si vede scritta da una parte Mar Ionio e dall’ altra Mar Mediterraneo, questo perchè proprio in quel punto avviene l’incontro tra i due mari.
MARZAMEMI
Marzamemi is a small jewel of eastern Sicily, it is located in the province of Syracuse and is a small fishing village wrapped by an aura of magic.
The village has a picturesque character, it seems to have come out of the set of a movie.
Vi è un po’ di dibattito sull’origine del suo nome, alcuni dicono che derivi dalla parola araba marsà al-ḥamāma ossia “ baia delle tortore” per la grande presenza di questi uccelli nel borgo, altri dalla parola araba “marsa” “memi” messe insieme per indicare un porto sicuro. This, however, makes us think of the importance and the great Arab domination that Sicily had in the past.
Marzamemi è un piccolo gioiello della Sicilia orientale, si trova in provincia di Siracusa ed è un piccolo borgo di pescatori avvolto da un alone di magia.
Il borgo ha proprio un carattere pittoresco, sembra di essere usciti dalla scenografia di un film.
Vi è un po’ di dibattito sull’origine del suo nome, alcuni dicono che derivi dalla parola araba marsà al-ḥamāma ossia “ baia delle tortore” per la grande presenza di questi uccelli nel borgo, altri dalla parola araba “marsa” “memi” messe insieme per indicare un porto sicuro. Questo comunque ci fa pensare all’importanza e alla grande dominazione araba che la Sicilia ha avuto in passato.
The main square is invaded by colorful tables, take a photo in front of these premises is just a must for tourists passing by Marzamemi.
The village was born thanks to the Arabs who decided to build a trap.

Not to be missed is the Artieri Market, also known as the largest market of made in Italy in southern Italy.
It is possible to find many works totally handmade. Also the location is really beautiful.
If you also have the desire to visit these places then I know that I have done a good job.

La piazza principale è invasa da tavolini colorati, fare una foto davanti a questi locali è proprio un must del turista che passa da Marzamemi.
Il borgo nasce grazie agli arabi che decisero di costruire una tonnara. ( se non sapete cosa sia e vi siete persi il mio articolo vi lascio qui il link per recuperarlo @be-claere/what-is-the-marfaragghiu )
Da non perdere è il Mercato Artieri, anche conosciuto come il mercato più grande del made in Italy nel sud Italia.
E’ possibile trovare moltissime opere totalmente artigianali. Inoltre la location è veramente stupenda.
