Saint George Church, Penang - Malaysia

Can you imagine, there are many things that existed before we were born. Everything is linked in time and events. One of them is about Saint George Church, Penang Island that I have visited. A church that is even older than my grandmother. The first church in Penang Island, Malaysia.

If you know, it was a struggle when I entered a church wearing a hijab because I am a Muslim. I will tell you about it.

Finding this church actually started with me and my bicycle traveling to all corners of Penang. Win, it is very tiring when you pedal a bicycle to go around a city you have never been to and the feeling is mixed between very pleasant and very tiring.

The city of Penang is so hot, because the location of this island is on a small island and surrounded by the sea. The heat from the sun and the wind blowing, although tiring because the sun at that time really reached its maximum temperature, did not make me afraid and finally wanted to rest and find Saint George Church because the place looked very shady at that time. Like a human being in the desert, finding a river is something that is very desirable.

After parking my bike in the church yard, I took my cellphone and took some pictures in front of Saint George Church. Although the sun was hot, I saw the sky was so blue and clear. There were no clouds at that time, because the humidity was very low. The building seemed to be under renovation on the front facade, there was work in progress and all visitors were advised to be careful.

Maybe, if it wasn't under renovation, the building would be very beautiful, but, even so, this church still looks so interesting. Obviously, this is one of the cultural heritage buildings, managed and maintained by the Malaysian government. They really maintain everything that has been there, not changed at all in the shape and foundation of the building. If you see some footage on the internet, it's the same as what you see in person.

Before entering the building, there is a place that is one of the most beautiful parts of the building. I feel like I'm in Europe, seeing the shape of this building, a mini of the church in England. Obviously, Penang was once owned by England at that time, but it's true what people say, that if the country was once owned by England, then there would be a lot of cultural heritage. One example is this city of Penang, which is called George Town.

Entering the Saint George church building, the shape of the building is very neat and oldskull. Like being in a time machine and you go back to the early 1900s, where everything is very natural, yes maybe there are some parts that have been renovated, because some furniture certainly cannot last so long for more than 100 years. Even so, they will look for the same and similar furniture as before.

The front of the altar is limited to visitors, only for the management of Saint George Church. The large and tall pillars show that this church is an original design from the British heritage, they really uphold the value of art and design that is timeless, from era to era and still very beautiful to look at.

This church does not need air conditioning, its tall building reaches the incoming wind, there are only a few fans attached to the roof of the building. Everything relies on nature, they know very well about the climate in ASEAN, the shape of the building adjusts to the climate so that it continues to survive from time to time. Do they know that in the future there will be extreme hot weather?

That's my story in one of the world's cultural heritages, in Penang, George Town. There are so many other stories. I'll tell you more next time.

See you the next time hive friends!
