"Montesenario Sanctuary": Finally Inside the Sanctuary! And Afterwards One Last Trail

Last week we explored the surroundings of the Sanctuary, discovering caves, abandoned dwellings and some beautiful marble statues...

"Montesenario Sanctuary": Exploring the Trails and Caves Surroundings This Beautiful Church from the XIII Century

... now, instead, it is finally time to enter the Sanctuary and admire the beautiful interior of this ancient Church, founded about 1,000 years ago!

A few steps and my girlfriend and I quickly realized that we had underestimated the beauty of what awaited us: huge paintings, statues, carvings, and decorations of all kinds crowd the interior of the structure, overwhelming us with their incredible amount of detail.

The environment radiates spirituality and majesty with every step we take, and wherever we turn our gaze we find other works to admire and be fascinated by.

We thought we were standing in front of a small and remote country church, and instead we are surprised with vast environments overflowing with masterpieces.

an ossuary full of skulls 💀

The photos I would have liked to take are 100 times more, but sadly in most areas there was a dimness that made it impossible for my phone to take decent photos.

Luckily, my girlfriend has a better smartphone...right? Well yes... but actually no, because the photos she had taken have mysteriously disappeared 😅 - let's assume deleted by accident - so I can only show you a glimpse of the wonderful things inside this Sanctuary, which I highly recommend visiting to anyone who happens to be traveling through the outskirts of Florence.

After visiting the interior with my girlfriend we decided to take one last tour before we left, and having noticed a path not far away on the way out, we immediately went to explore it!

A nice little map of the trail and its places of interest

The trail, named "Andrea's," is very quiet, well marked and has little steepness.

The trail is great to end the day, allowing for one last walk through nature, with a few fruits here and there...

At the end of the trail it is time to get back in the car and head home: after all, it is dinner time and there are a couple of stomachs starting to grumble :)

Photos made by me or my girlfriend.
