Come with me through Lucerne

I hope you have all a great time. In Lucerne, Switzerland you will find a lot to discover, even if you only have a limited time to spend, no matter in which season. The best and easiest way to explore Lucerne is on foot. The old town with its attractions as well as the city center are very close to the main train station and ship station.

Here in picture of the Chapel Bridge and water tower, the landmark of the city of Lucerne. Together with the Spreuer Bridge further downstream, it is evidence of the city's medieval history. The exact date of construction of the bridge is not known. It was certainly built after 1252, but evidence indicates that it was built in 1265. The history of the cycle of paintings on the Chapel Bridge is sad. The original 158 triangular pictures with scenes from Swiss history , which are hanging in the gables of the bridge, date from 1614. Some of the pictures were lost in the floods in 1741. The biggest loss, however, was caused by the bridge fire in 1993, from 111 original paintings on the bridge, 86 were partially burnt or burnt almost completely.

Lucerne's town hall on the Kornmarkt was built between 1602 - 1606 by the Italian architect Anton Isenmann from Prismell. It is a masterpiece of the late Renaissance. The town hall tower is older, it is supposed to have been a clock in the town hall tower as early as 1408. The Zurich clockmaker Hansen Luter made a new town hall clock about 1526.
