Hello people!
And here we go again, last trip and post about the northern coast of Spain, in the region of Galicia. We have already visited the most important cities such as Santiago de Compostela or La Coruña, as well as other areas and coasts that took us to the end of the world, and the southern area with beautiful beaches, but in the northern part of the north there is also much to see.
And this whole area is known as the Costa da Morte (Coast of Death) named like this because it is a territory of strong currents and imposing cliffs, nature is beautiful, powerful and can also be dangerous, as many fishermen perished on this coast...
But we can enjoy impressive landscapes, both natural beaches and small charming towns. There are many places and some of them are a small town and a beautiful quiet beach that I share with you:
Santo André de Teixido (Town)
Almost in the middle of nowhere, well, between mountains, valleys and an imposing coast, we discovered small charming towns and villages. A quiet and real place to spend a few summer days perhaps.
And in this one in particular that we visited "Santo André", we first came across an "orrio", which are these elevated rectangular structures, where they kept the food, the grains, and they did it high up to avoid the humidity of the ground, because it rains a lot here and also to avoid animals eating them.
Then we found a small, very pretty local style church, as are the rest of the houses around, we took a pleasant walk.
Then we looked out over the rough sea from the top of the mountains, there on the cliffs we enjoyed spectacular views. Nature in its natural state.
Playa das Estacas (Beach)
And from the top we go down to the coast, heading to one of the endless wild and natural beaches in this area. There are many, and we walk through those eucalyptus forests to reach one of them: "Playa de las Estacas", I think it's called.
To access the rocky mountains that welcome us, there are wooden stairs, and finally the coast before our eyes and under our bare feet. We step on the sand, the wet moss and discover a larger coast, a quiet beach and much more.
Further along the coast
If we continue along the coast we may find interesting elements that we were not expecting... A disused building that apparently had to do with an old bunker, related to the war. And from there more views, more waves hitting the rocks, with energy and almost constantly, nature here has strength and shows it while we observe.
As we return to the quieter part of the sandy beach, where some enjoy surfing while others just enjoy the views, the sea and the wild horizon from a lively and powerful coast in the north of Spain.
