The Question

Lana sat with a resigned expression on her face. Her hand rested on the extended handle of the suitcase beside her. I red ribbon was tied loosely on the handle for easy identification on the luggage carousel after her flight.

A tall gentleman pushed his way through the airport looking over heads as he moved towards his gate. His eyes were dark and his mouth a thin, grim line. He had to catch his wife before he lost sight of her. The airplane ticket to Arizona was clenched between the fingers of his left hand. He dragged the black carry-on case with its wheels barely making contact with the ground.

The crowd parted suddenly in front of him. He could see Lana sitting at his gate. He slowed his step as he approached. He didn't want her to leave because she saw him. He ducked behind a crowd of people moving slowly toward a variety store within the airport.

He moved to the gate seating near Lana and sat down. She spotted him and her eyes grew wide and immediately clouded over.

"You went out of your way to come here, Marcus. What is your question?"

"There is no question, Lana. Instead, I want to apologize and I hope you can consider forgiving me."

"It's too late, Marcus. Too late for anything like this. Enjoy your life and please let me enjoy mine."
