Mr. Cyril, who's a die-hard fan of the Super Falcons, decided to have a bet with his three friends on the third-place match between Nigeria and Zambia during the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco.
"We are staking $50 each. I'm in support of the Falcons winning the bronze medal and if I win, I will take all, but if you guys win, you'll take your money back plus my $50. This is my money, drop yours." Cyril gave the condition and dropped his cash on the table.
The three friends, Frank, Marcus, and Hugo, looked at him and smiled. They searched for a cash withdrawal centre, withdrew $50 each, and dropped it on the table.
All of them agreed and gave the money, $250, to the owner of the bar for safekeeping.
The following day, which was the day of the match, Cyril put a phone call across to his friends to remind them of the match of the day, hoping they'd not changed their minds, and they assured him that there's nothing to worry about.
Time moved fast, like the speed of light, to 5:00 p.m. when the match was to kick off.
The match kicked off at 5:00 p.m., and adrenaline was put to the test as the first half ended goalless, but the Zambians pressed more.
During halftime, the three friends traced down Cyril to the sports arena, where he was watching the match. They met him and burst into laughter because the way he rated the Super Falcons to win was massive, but the disappointing result was telling on his face.
They sat down to watch the remaining half of the match, and it ended 1:0 in favour of the Zambians, who clinched the bronze medal
Cyril was disappointed and angry but couldn't get his money back even when he tried to negotiate with his friends.
