There was a zapfic prompt released on Monday, and in this one we have to write a 240 character short story, using the prompt 'Complication'

It has been a while since writing one of these, so I figured I would give it a go.

Rules:

Please post to the Freewriters Community.

Please post a link to your entry in the comments section of this post

Please use the tags: #zapfic and #zapficmonday

YOU MUST use a word/character counter (if you search for word counter on the internet or in your phone's app store you will get a big choice!) wordcounter.net and include a screenshot. Entries without a screenshot will NOT be valid

Please use the prompt provided as you see fit (use your imagination)

Try to tell a complete story if you can!

The story should only be 240 characters long (including spaces) - can be shorter, but not longer!

"Why are the ships engines unresponsive?!" the captain shouted at the intercom.

On the other side one of the engineers had a dumb look on his face while others rushed around the room in the background.

"Fix it or we'll be stranded here!"

I always find these ones more of a challenge than the 50-word prompts, but I got it done. Usually when writing these, I tend to go way over the limit and have to cut a bunch of stuff to get it back down.

While we are allowed to go under the 240-character limit, I like to aim to hit the exact limit when writing these.
