Retribution - Weekend 5 Minute Freewrite / Short story

The Weekend Freewrite - 3/7/2020- Part 1, 2, 3 prompts. With the week being the way it has been I have been a bit off. The drama everywhere around the chain is astonishing but it has been one clear thing, more activity than at any other time in the past 2 years. Amazing what happens when we all unite against a common issue/invader/pest. This is what will happen, metaphorically, if the chain is broken.

"Crazy ideas," she murmured under her breath. But she kept on nodding and smiling. “Stop it! You’re not going to do anything! YET!” She admonished herself silently.

“We would like to see you be to a place where you can take over managing the stand within a few weeks if possible.” The dark haired, tall and thin man interviewing her said.

“I think that would be very possible.” Her voice clear but her nerves were shot. She had been trying her hardest to keep the natural reactions at bay and was nearing a breaking point when the rather portly woman next to the man said, “We like your type and think you would fit in perfect here.”

“Thank you” was all she could muster through clenched teeth.

His socks were wet and rubbing, but he couldn't stop. As he sat at the table with the wreck of a coworker who smelled like half rancid Feta cheese he could not stop poking the chop stick into his socks to scratch his feet. He hoped the girl he was interviewing wouldn’t notice. “When is it that you would be able to start work?” The itching continued and he barely managed to stay focused enough to hear her response.

“I can start as soon as you need me to. Today even.” The words stumbled over her teeth as they tried to cram through the exit of her mouth.

"A headache, or her own version of one is what they would get. Too many people around. Why won’t they leave?” She questioned herself silently as the woman and man talked between themselves.

“She would do well here. I like her, a lot.” The woman said.

“Yeah I bet you do. Her resume is tight and she has experience so I think she could handle the stand easily.” The man said glancing the way of the girl.

“Tight is right.” The woman said with a hiss of her breath through touching teeth.

The woman and man had their backs turned to the girl. She looked around and found herself with the moment. She pulled the small remote from her pocket and set it on the table in front of her.

“Do you remember Tony Levine” The girl asked gently.

The woman and man continued to talk.

“He worked for you 4 years ago. You should remember him.”

The woman glanced at the girl and turned to the man to get his attention, “She said something.”

“That day is etched in my brain. How do you not remember me?”

“What? What did you say? I can’t quite hear what you are saying?” The man said.

“You let him die that day. You watched him die and did nothing. You let your employee be murdered and you did nothing.”

“Wait, you knew Tony?” The man gasped.

“He was my brother.”

“No wonder I’m this into you. Makes sense now.” The woman wrung her hands as she looked the girl up and down.

“That’s why I’m here. You both don’t deserve to live.”

The girl grabbed the small remote and pressed the one button that detonated the backpack beneath the table.
