"What's the best way to get a woman into bed?" said Lenny, looking up at me over his glasses. He was an old friend of my father's who had moved to London from New York City with the express purpose of opening a branch office for his company, which sold software programs to banks and other financial institutions.
"It depends," I told him. "Are you talking about a casual encounter or something more serious?"
Lenny nodded. "The latter."
I smiled. "Well, then you've got to make sure she feels good about herself before you even think about sex."
"How can I do that?"
"You don't know how she feels about herself?"

"Then you have to get her to open up. Tell her that you're interested in getting to know her better, but you want to be careful because this could end up being a long-term relationship.
Then ask her questions: What's your favorite color? What kind of music do you like? What's your biggest fear? How would you describe yourself?"
"And if she says she doesn't want to answer those questions?"
"Then you back off and try another approach."
Lenny looked dubious. "Another approach?"
"Yeah, something that makes her feel special. Like telling her you're impressed by her looks or intelligence. Or maybe complimenting her on some specific skill, like cooking or horseback riding."
And when you have a private discussion with her, tell her that you've been thinking about her a lot lately. You're wondering if you might be able to get together sometime."
Lenny laughed. "Sounds a little too contrived for me."
"Okay, you don't want to get her then", I jokingly concluded
"Find out what she does and then use that to set up an opportunity to talk about it. It'll help to show her that you're willing to take an interest in her life", I continued
"I suppose," he said doubtfully.
"And when you finally do get around to asking her out, make sure you say something nice about her clothes or hair. Women love compliments on their appearance."
Lenny raised his hands as if to ward off my words. "But what if I don't like what she's wearing?"
"Just try to look past it. Don't let it affect you. Instead, focus on her eyes, her smile, and her lips. She's going to be the one doing all the work anyway."
Lenny frowned. "What if she doesn't like me?"
"If she doesn't, then you'll never know."
He sighed. "This is really hard."
"Tell me about it."
"I'm sorry," he said, shaking his head. "I just don't see how I can ever get a woman to fall for me."
"Maybe you should start with the one who already likes you."
"That's easy for you to say," he said, laughing again. "You're beautiful."
I blushed. Then wondered if I have been giving lectures on how to win me over to him. These thoughts made my heart race faster bringing how much I liked him to my already pink cheeks.
