A new venture for 2022 and beyond!

So it's already after midnight and just getting onto #Peakd to write a post that I have been wanting to write all day.

It's about a life story- in part, an overview of my life up until now, but mostly a life story for the beginning of a new life, some might say a new chapter, but I feel that this is much bigger than a new chapter, more like the prelude of part #2.

This is the start of the journey to a mission that I am sure that I have been destined for since birth- 50 years ago. (crap I can't believe I'm freaking 50 already! How rude life, how very RUDE of you..😱..🀣..πŸ–•..😭...πŸ™„)

Anyway, Part #2 took me a while to recognise and even longer to action as life has always interrupted any plans to progress, until today.

Today I saw a job advertised on the Ethical Jobs website for a casual animal attendant position at the RSPCA- which is a rare occurrence and so I have spent most of the day collating material, writing and honing both my cover letter and updating my CV and since it's been a while, it took a while to get it perfect- Well let's hope it's perfect anyway, Because I really WANT THIS JOB!

So this is what I just submitted for the job application and I would love to hear your feedback.

Currently studying the Certificate in Animal Studies via an online portal, I would absolutely love to gain practical, hands on experience in a complex and fast paced professional environment such as the RSPCA and to be able to put my new knowledge to the test in a realistic and professional setting by supporting the permanent staff to deliver the epitome of high quality care to all of these extraordinary and well deserving hairy, furry, feathered, slimy, scaly babies.

(A rare glimpse of ChocolateScorpi...🀣 πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜…...and yes, I did put these photos at the end of my cover letter- after all, I want to stand out. I NEED to stand out as I'm sure that there's going to be some tough competition....)

As I have previously had the amazing opportunity to volunteer in a couple of animal sanctuaries overseas with a huge range of animal species, such as elephants, bears, primates, large birds, reptile, crocodiles, cassowaries, all the way through to dogs and cats, I have had some experience performing regular cleaning and feeding processes with additional medication needs, animal handling and enrichment, however I would love to learn more methods to compliment my current studies and enhance my knowledge and skills set, especially from such a highly regarded organisation as the RSPCA.

And to alleviate the read fatigue, I will intersperse this post with photos that I found on my harddrive today of some of the animals that shot (Photographed..) that I worked with while volunteering at WFFT in Thailand, https://www.wfft.org/ AND I just saw this on the WFFT website here! https://www.wfft.org/urgent-tiger-and-bear-rescue/

Screen Shot 2022-01-17 at 1.52.03 am.png

So for every Hive I receive for this post payout, I will donate it directly to WFFT to help out atleast one (preferably more) of these animals to be rehomed. Will you too?

But then I also want to donate more to the RSPCA too. So maybe a 50/50 split between the 2 of them (though we know that the Hive will go much MUCH further in Thai Baht than $AUD..what do you guys think???.)

Now please meet Thong- Koan, the Slow Loris here...

I am more than confident in my ability to successfully contribute to the daily management of any and all animals species and across all parts of the shelter, including transportation, as well as by observing, documenting and reporting the health and behavioural concerns of animals in the care of the RSPCA, as I have done throughout my own personal life owning a range of animals over the past 5 decades and ofwhich, these types of observational clinical and administrative skills, I am now ratifying through official study.

IMG_3623.JPG

This also includes the eagerness to support all of the Veterinarians when required as this activity is a part of my pathway to achieving my final destination- my purpose in life.

IMG_3628.JPG

As I have previously won numerous employee of the month and year awards for exemplary customer service in my previous hospitality career, I can assure you of my ability to provide not only a high level of service to customers in the adoption, surrender and reclaiming of animals, but to the animals themselves and to all team mates simultaneously.

IMG_3989.JPG

Although I have previously gained a certificate in Medical Reception and Terminology but more importantly have learnt to document and record all details relating to the management of animals accurately through my current Certificate in Animal Studies, I look forward to performing these tasks in accordance with RSPCA Victoria procedures and timeframes to which I have not had the opportunity or honour to learn as yet.

IMG_3956.JPG

As I am a mature minded person with many years of life experience, both personally and professionally, I am an all-rounder, with a broad range of practical skills and comprehensive knowledge, understanding the need for flexibility, discretion, professionalism and efficiency, so therefore I have no doubts about my ability to positively contribute to an inclusive work environment by effectively communicating and working collaboratively with peers across all departments, including providing support and direction to volunteers, especially since I have previous practical experience as a volunteer coordinator in a community media production house.

IMG_3768.JPG

I am more than happy working in a team as I enjoy the camaraderie, though I am flexible and able to adapt very quickly and easily to work autonomously.

IMG_3803.JPG

Previous experience in animal care roles have all been in volunteer roles, as well as I growing up in rural New South Wales in a home filled with cats, dogs, chickens and guinea pigs, surrounded by rolling green hills full of dairy cattle, which many of my friends owned and I was able to visit often to ride their horses.

IMG_3704.JPG

Until recently I also had my own backyard full of cats, dogs, chickens and rabbits when living in Port Melbourne, so I have had a lifetimes experience of direct contact with a plethora of animals in a range of contexts- at their best, their worst, through good health and nursing them through illness until death.

IMG_3979.JPG

Although I am an efficient problem solver, I actually specialise in trouble-shooting, am a pro-active, considerate, level-headed, energetic person with an eye for detail, have a love for future proofing, excellent time management skills, work very well under pressure, with a natural ability to multitask and love learning new things, therefore I have the proven ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, considering this is the type of environment that I have worked in since I started working 35 years ago and which also demonstrates the experience that I have working collaboratively in a team environment.

IMG_3692.JPG

As I hold a current Victorian Drivers Licence, my own car and am centrally located to travel to any destination needed, I have the ability to work rotating rosters including weekends, late shifts and public holidays, as well as flexibility and the desire to pick up all extra shifts in any and all locations across Victoria and love doing those shifts that most others don’t.

IMG_3926.JPG

I have a great sense of humour, love to make people laugh and have the ability to make them feel special as I am a person who loves to make other people happy, therefore brightening my own day and I genuinely enjoy going above and beyond the call of duty to support my teammates, therefore reaching an even better outcome for all involved.

IMG_3688.JPG

So what is my life’s purpose and why after so many years working in other industries am I finally working towards achieving it, I hear you ask.

Screen Shot 2022-01-17 at 1.22.03 am.png

Since I was very young, I have always had a natural affinity with all animals, some people even call me the animal whisperer, but I got sidetracked as a teenager, traveling around the world working in firstly the hospitality industry for many years, then community media upon moving to Melbourne in 2005, where I had previously been living in the middle of the Daintree Rainforest for 3 years, living with a menagerie of native and domestic animals. (In my bed, walking over my head...)

IMG_3484.JPG

During my time at the community media production house producing an environmental, social justice current affairs program that was broadcast on C31, I had an epiphany and realised that the some of the minority groups that I was helping by being the platform for them to create awareness of their issues, were in fact also some of the people that were also abusing animals in their own way, whether it be through deliberate or unintentional actions, beliefs, attitudes, economic needs, or traditional, cultural and /or religious practices.

IMG_3394.JPG

At the same time, every time I went home to stay with my family in NSW, I would sit with Mum as she devoured all of the American produced Animal police shows and hear her cries of disbelief and disgust and hear the frustration and distress in her voice not knowing how she could help.

IMG_3371.JPG

I also realised that there was also a big gap in the type of animal based programs and so created a small slate of animal rights and welfare based docuseries, all designed to educate and entertain all demographics. During the constant research to write all of the development documents for each one, I realised just how prevalent that the use, abuse and exploitation of animals is on a global basis which led me to realise that my one and only purpose in life is to help protect and preserve all beings in our precious animal kingdom by both educating of the masses through my docuseries and by my own direct action as a vet. https://www.chocolatescorpion.com/animal-volunteers-abroad

IMG_3885.JPG

This realisation has led me to visit and volunteer in numerous sanctuaries, interviewing the staff and volunteers as well as filming many seminars and other events, conducting even more research, which has only served to solidify my desire to do nothing with the rest of my life bar help all animals in any which way I can. https://www.chocolatescorpion.com/animalis

IMG_3859.JPG

So I hope that this cover letter serves to prove not only how much I know that I can make a difference to the protection and welfare of all animals, but to also express to you just how dedicated, passionate and worthy I am, as well as being the most undeniably professionally suitable person to successfully execute every aspect of this role.

IMG_3894.JPG

I thank you so much for your time and consideration and look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible for an interview, as I am available to meet at any time that suits you.

In the meantime, have a wonderful day and stay safe, footloose and Covid free.

So what is the RSPCA?

The RSPCA is an independent, community-based charity providing animal care and protection services across the country.

As a federated organisation, the RSPCA’s member societies in each state and territory run animal rehoming shelters, investigate and prosecute animal cruelty complaints, and educate the community on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. https://www.rspca.org.au/what-we-do

RSPCA member Societies care for animals across Australia, by rehoming neglected and unwanted animals through their shelters and by educating the community about responsible pet ownership.

RSPCA member societies in each state and territory (with the exception of RSPCA Darwin) work hard every day to prevent cruelty to animals, through enforcing animal welfare legislation via their Inspectorates. https://www.rspca.org.au/about-us

The RSPCA advocates for the welfare of animals across a range of industries, environments and issues. We regularly mobilise our hundreds of thousands of supporters to call on governments and industries to prioritise animal welfare. Some of the key issues we’re currently working on are ending the suffering of millions of layer hens in battery cages, and ending the long-haul live export of sheep from Australia to the Middle East. https://www.rspca.org.au/take-action

The RSPCA is committed to improving farm animal welfare, and we engage with farmers, governments and the industry to achieve this through a number of key channels.

IMG_3999.JPG

And please, adopt, don't shop.
https://www.rspca.org.au/adopt-pet
And if you can't adopt, then consider donating instead. https://www.rspca.org.au/start-your-donation-story/regular as there has been a huge influx of unwanted 'pocket pets' smaller animals such as Ferrets, Rats, Guinea Pigs that have been abandoned at the RSPCA and other shelters recently due to those people that could not adopt dogs during lockdown and didn't realise that these 'pockets pets' also had to be looked after properly...πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„ So if you can't look after one of these animals, how on earth do you think you can look after a dog properly...πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ€”???

πŸ πŸƒπŸŒπŸ•·πŸπŸ“πŸ¦†πŸΈπŸπŸΏπŸ¦‹πŸ’πŸžπŸ¦πŸˆπŸ¦†πŸ₯πŸœπŸ¦‘πŸ›πŸ„πŸ¦‡πŸͺπŸ¦πŸ³πŸŠπŸ¦€πŸ¦ŒπŸ–πŸ’πŸπŸ‹πŸ

So anyway, if you were the RSPCA, after reading that Cover letter, would you hire me, (even if you knew that I may not have quite the level of offical qualifications required-yet...?)

Thank you so much for reading my post , I really hope that you enjoyed it and look forward to your comments and thoughts.
