No teacher around

When I was at the school of photography (something like a million years ago) I started a project for one of my courses. My idea was to take pictures of an urban environment, while people would be emphatically absent and try to create an unease, almost post apocalyptic feeling. In order to give a more eerie look to my pictures, I used the technique of cross processing slide film, in C-41 chemicals (which are made for negative film).

I remind you that my education was fully analog and we didn't have any digital tools in our disposal. Everything had to be done during the shooting and the chemical processing of the film. Cross process is a technique that you develop a film in wrong chemicals, taking an unusual but potentially interesting result!

Long story short, I chose an area close to my house and for many nights I was wandering along the empty streets with my little tripod and my amateur camera, trying to transform my idea into pictures.

I gloriously, failed :)

I chose another subject for my course and I forgot about it!

Until last night that in a wistful mood, I took the same old, unwieldy tripod that I hadn't used for ages and went for a photo walk in the empty streets. With no particular goal other than enjoy the lovely night and take a few pictures that I might like and hopefully you'll like them too :)

The location is the historical centre of Nafplio, one of the oldest and most picturesque towns in Greece. Probably a much more suitable scenery for eerie pictures than the Athenian suburb of the 90's in which I was trying to bring to fruition my juvenile idea :)

I know that those pictures are far from eerie or even more, post apocalyptic, the place is too nice for that, but at least, I tried to avoid the postcard-like kind of images that are so common in this town. And a slightly aggressive editing might helped a little bit!

In any case the walk was just brilliant and most of all, there is no teacher around to see and grade my pictures :)

This is my contribution to the #wednesdaywalk challenge, hosted by @tattoodjay

Happy walks to all of you :)
