The True Power of Hive and my Goal for 2004

The True Power of Hive

Ever wonder what is the more compelling part of Hive? I mean there are lots of things that get people to join. Any of the headings below have lured many people in.

Write Posts : Get Money

It's amazing how enticing the simple thought of free money can be. When I saw STEEM a long time ago I read an article about getting paid to write posts. I signed up for an account, maybe wrote one article, saw no result and promptly forgot about it.

Play Games : Make money

Fast forward a couple years and I was looking at ways to play games and make money. I do love games after all. A few things came up but as I love card games Splinterlands is the one that stuck with me.

Get Fit : Make money

After I got a dog and had to walk every single day the idea of making money while walking the dog became attractive. Enter the Actifit community. If I'm walking anyways why not get paid a little coin to do it.

Make friends : Make money

After figuring out how Hive works in a small degree I found out about Hive communities. #HiveLearners, #MarketFriday, #LoveHive and others. Make friends, make posts, be part of something larger, and make money. How awesome is that. Or perhaps DREEM community. Read Posts and get money.

Invest money : Make money

Look a little further and find that there are ways to make crypto by investing in crypto. Add liquidity to various liquidity pools and there are rewards to be had. Stake you HBD and make high interest. Delegate your HP to a curator like @leo.voter and get a good return. Even just stake your HIVE and get a percentage interest! What's not to like about passive income?

None of those are really what I find truly attractive about HIVE

The true power lies in two parts : The People (see the image up top) and the Financal platform that they sit on.

I've done my best to be a Good Hivian and learn the system

My last year on HIVE was to learn the system. Learn how to join and be active in communities. Make a few friends. See how the earning infrastructure works. See how curation works. See how dApps work. Pretty much learn everything I could about Hive.

No wonder that I joined the #HiveLearners community!

I'm not really a blogger at heart though. I'm not really personable. I am not after the financial rewards. I'm not after the followers. I am all about learning the power of the Hive ecosystem. Please don't misunderstand me: I really love getting upvotes by curators. I truly appreciate every comment that I get. I truly value the few good friends I've made on Hive.

More than everything else ONE thing stood out to me above everything else about the true power of HIVE.

Hive brings Capital and People together

It may not seem like much but that statement is far bigger than you might realize. There is money in the world waiting for good projects to invest in. There are people in this world who are hardworking and honest who just need a little capital to get started. However, finding the match between those two is challenging indeed!

How is a person in Canada (or USA, or Germany, etc) supposed to find good people to invest with? Honest people? Hardworking people? Projects to invest time and energy in?

It is certainly not from scam emails by "Nigerian Princes" saying please send money so I can unlock my bank account!

There are certainly many aid agencies who ask for our donations. Many NGO's that want to save the world or bring services to different areas. However, most of these organizations have many layers or beurocracy. They also have huge expenses and generally the money given to them doesn't trickle down well.

In a recent article I read that one company was paying an aid worker $140,000 HBD plus benefits to work in Haiti. The average per capita income there is $1,745 per year (less than Nigeria which is $2140). It just irritated me that one foreigner is making a very good wage from the donations of others who want to help those who make very little. There is a little voice in my head saying "But you could have hired almost 100 locals to improve the community for that amount!". Now that is an extreme example but you can read this article which showed that expats made 900% the wage of equivalent local talent.

Now I could defend the high wage for the foreign worker (he/she has to pay bills for his family back home, he/she may be entering a dangerous workplace, he/she may have skills that locals just done have, etc, etc.) At the end of the day though I believe its better to find quality local people, give them jobs, give them purpose and make a change from within! In short--match capital with people!

That is something that HIVE excels at.

Now Dall-E gave me this image of matching capital and people through cryptocurrencies. It is like a horrible stereotype of people in developing nations but it does show a link between workers and crypto so I included it. Hope it isn't seen as offensive.

Where else can I meet the quality of people that I meet on Hive?

@monica-ene has a Biology degree, is a seamstress, a homesteader, and blogger.

@jjmusa2004 is a fully fledged Doctor, highly trained, and well respected.

Those are just two of the people I've met. I've seen so many posts from well educated and eloquent people on Hive. In addition to that I can quickly look at their reputation. Lots of people say they put in the work but reputation will immediately tell me if a person is talking big or actually doing the work. Then I have access to all their posts. Recruiters have a short resume of who a person is but with Hive I have access to years worth of blogs, thoughts, and pictures of their work.

In short, Hive has a huge pool of very qualified, interesting people! However, it is also a great way to send money. Sure there are things like Western Union, wire transfers, and other money sending methods. However there are fees, money laundering safeguards and other hurdles which make it less than a fun experience (I've sent lots of money to family in the Philippines--never easy). However, with Hive it takes a second. Even better everything is fully transparent--no wondering if something was sent of not--everyone can see.

Even better Hive is a fully fledged way to raise capital from other users. It is dead simple to start up a level 2 cryptocurrency and link it to a project. That means that there are lots of really awful projects out there but a few really stellar ones (here's looking at you 3speak).

I put my effort into Hive because I wanted to delve into the link between Crypto and Real world projects

This year its time to partner up and try to make a difference

Last year was all about learning about Hive. Meeting new people. Learning about decentralized finance, liquidity pools, and all that stuff. It was about learning about Communities by joining and participating in them (even making one). It was learning about the hard work involved in making a post and formatting it. About hashtags, curating, curators, whales, red fish and so much more.

This year its my goal to try and use the Hive to make some real world changes. I've made a development plan and sent it off to some trusted individuals to get feedback. I'm hoping to invest more into the blockchain to bring in income to fund a project or two. I'm hoping to have a project that is worthy of trying to raise investment capital through the GLD coin and staking/mining feature. Plus hopefully use real world change to help add more funds back into the Hive infrastructure.

In Short, I'm very exicited

Of course details are pretty scarce right now.

Why?

Two reasons. First. If I'm overenthusiastic on a plan that my friends tell me is a horrible idea then I won't proceed. I don't want to say I will do something only to eat my words later.

Second. The plan that I wrote up wasn't as detailed as I wanted, as polished as I wanted, and still when I check on HIVE it said it would be a 2 hour read. No-one reads a 2 hour post on HIVE 😆 Well, maybe they do but in my previous year or writing I've come to the conclusion that's way too long.

Looking forward to another year on HIVE!

Thanks for making it this far.

Curious what everyone else will be up to this year also :)
