Whoever said the proverb that goes by “ experience is the best teacher ” must have gone through a series of challenges to be able to have that phrase known globally. If an individual doesn't learn from personal experience then you must learn from people's lives too one way or the other. Within yourself, you don't see yourself re-living that person's mistake ever so eventually you learn from that challenge and then apply experience in the path you're walking on to avoid seeing yourself in that position.
The funny thing about this life is that one must pass through good and bad moments before realizing whatever is in there. It takes chances for one to escape such an event when it appears itself.
Sometimes most challenges need to occur at an interval before one realizes that all that glitters is not gold. By the way, that quote is from William Shakespeare, and it also has similarities with this quote “Don't judge a book by its cover”.
If I were to personally elaborate on these quotes it will be in this narrative below...
After many rambling thoughts, I have drawn to the conclusion that the quote “all that glitters is not gold”, comes from thoughtful research. There's a possible outcome of encounters that William Shakespeare had with different people before concluding this. In my perspective, reading the human mind is impossible although I am not disputing the fact that there isn't a voodoo priest or a telepath somewhere in the universe doing that abracadabra.
Sure there are but rare to find folks studying psychology, aside from that no one else can read and determine what's going on in someone else's mind. Bringing back this subject to the quote of the day which says “all that glitters is not gold”, simply necessitates that not everything that you see as perfect is truly perfect. Not all whom you see or discern is flawless, no one is without flaw.
For instance, if you are very conversant with movies and you have a favorite character that you have conferred as a good figure, then out of the blues he has been the bad egg so far plotting evil, and your high expectations went to mud. That's an example of the quote “all that glitters is not gold”, in conjunction with the second quote “don't judge a book by its cover”.
I was terrified because I wasn't expecting that character to be the bad egg and his evil motive was carried out successfully with planted evidence. So I will use this medium and point out the name of the movie titled "Fatal Seduction". And this is relatable to the real world, and I am sure that most people have come across individuals like this at their place of work or in different areas of their life.
It's more like a code phrase for “deceit”. Pretending what you aren't or Gold Rolex Watch embedded with shimmering substance to make it appear original whilst it's not. No matter how long you have preserved that deceitful attitude or the Gold Rolex Watch, the real person will surface/the original state will be brought back to life. Because time tells the history of events.
Another assumption, I was in the mainstream market and purchasing items on my list when I came across a jewelry seller. He was coming from afar when I sighted him but what brought it to my attention majorly is how the color was radiating because of the rays of sun and glittering. When he approached where I sat, he persuaded me to check out the varieties of necklaces he is selling. So we picked one which I liked and scanned through the whole package.
Meanwhile, the price was so pricey.
I began negotiating the price to a much lower cost as I was still scanning the necklace and from my survey, it appeared like it was sprayed a shimmering gold color. With that discovery and the resentment that it looked fake, I dropped it. I was reluctant to even touch it. That's when the seller had to reduce the price to twice the former negotiation price I told him.
That was when my resentment for the necklace worsened lol and I told him that maybe next time I will get it from him. I had to look for excuses to five till he left where I was seated. I could not let that mistake happen because I was carefully examining the item. This incident applies to the quote “All that glitters is not gold” and also to “Don't judge a book by its cover”.
