—Kels, Kels...
English version.
—Kels, Kels... Kelly, listen to me! Look at me— she looked at me and I could see her sweet crystallized eyes —It's not your fault, it's not.
She was still sobbing looking at the floor, looking at Ethan's lifeless body, even in that state I thought I could see on her face that damned smile of superiority.
—Nia...— she said closing her eyes and taking a breath, I knew how upset she was and it hurt to see her in this state —I-I... I didn't want to do it.
—Honey, I know you didn't want to do it, it's not your fa...
—Stop saying it's not my fault!- she suddenly cut me off —I killed him, it's my fault he's lying there, everyone is going to be devastated.—her tears wouldn't stop and her voice cut off with every word she said.
I didn't say another word as she slowly fell to her knees until she hit the floor, so helpless, so simple, a girl with so much light, so much brightness, and now there is only a faint spark left thanks to the wretch lying there. Continuing to watch the scene was not an option, but talking to Kelly was impossible, we would never come to an agreement, so I looked for some bags in the cabin without touching many of Ethan's personal belongings and tied them in my hands, took the shovel they had next to them and started digging right at the entrance when Kelly realized my actions.
As soon as I saw her intention to say something, I signaled her to keep quiet, with the little strength she had and how smart she is, I had no doubt she understood what I was doing, so I continued with mine until I got to a depth of almost 5 meters. I looked up and could not see Kelly, I was scared, but that feeling only lasted 3 seconds because the aforementioned woman made her presence known again, she had bags tied in her hands and a blanket.
She quickly crouched down next to the body and wrapped the blanket around it, she looked at me and I instantly went to grab his feet while she held him by the shoulders. The silence in that place was unmatched, the beating of two hearts was the only thing that could be heard. It's amazing how one moment in life you can be happy with the people around you and the next you discover that it was all a lie, a facade of who they really are.
Because I was lost in my thoughts I didn't notice when Kelly had already started to cover the body with the dirt I had dug out and using the shovel, so I started pushing the rest of the dirt with my feet until we could both finish.
We gathered up the dry leaves that Ethan a few hours ago had picked up and spread them around the area to make it look consistent with the rest of the surroundings, it was still dark and the stars were starting to hide behind rain clouds that were slowly forming.
Kelly and I looked into each other's eyes and held our hands as we slowly felt the drops fall on us, at first they fell very slowly between each other, but in the blink of an eye that changed, making way for the rain that we didn't know was coming to help us.
The blood that lay on the floor of the entrance spread of its own accord, disappearing into the wood. Kelly let go of my hand, took the now clean shovel and went inside to put it away, then came out and closed the door as if nothing had happened and took off her makeshift gloves very slowly while I just watched her.
—Nia, give me your hands.— she didn't wait for me to react as she took my hands and started to pull out the knots —It's funny how you started out taking control while I was just crying and now you seem to be in shock.
—Well, you've always been the one who solves everything, I think I was your push.— he made a noise that I distinguished as a sigh mixed with a laugh.
—Thank you for coming, I didn't know what to do.— I gave her a smile and she finished taking out the bags to put them in her purse —Let's go to my house, I said I would go for chocolates.
She didn't wait for my answer when she took my hand and we walked out as if nothing had happened. I took that moment to detail her, she was soaked, surely I was the same or maybe more than she was for staying outside. Her gaze shifted between the ground and the sky, she didn't look back at any moment but I noticed one of her bad habits, with which she controlled her anxiety, she started to move the ring she always wore, she turned it between her fingers, showing that the girl we all know is still here and that everything that happened in that cabin remained as part of the past: there never happened a homicide, she never brought out her coldest and calculating side....
Never did a bastard take away the innocence of a girl who was deeply in love, even though she told him to stop.
