A thoughtful Gift

Giving your friend, partner, loved one, or acquaintances gifts can be pretty difficult sometimes. You have the money but nothing comes to mind to give them and trust me you are not alone. A lot of people go through this every now and then and at the end of the day they tend to settle with giving their friends cash, perfumes, wristwatches and so many other random things that come to mind when “gift” is mentioned.

I used to belong to this category of people two years ago until I came across a video that made giving gifts super easy for me. From that video, I got to see gifts differently and I learnt that it’s not the most luxurious gift that counts but the thoughts and the problems the gift solves in a person's life.

I have learnt to pay attention to my friends' needs, those little things they unconsciously complain about, and those little problems I see them go through are what I try to solve in my own little way. I might not be able to replace my friend's faulty phone but I can be able to get her an ear phone which she needs to listen to her favorite podcasts.

Going by this I have been able to give my friends different thoughtful gifts and gifting my friend Tayo was no exception.

I have written about my friend Tayo and his love for coffee in this community. My friend Tayo has been a very good friend to mine, we’ve literally watched each other grow.

My friend visited me one day and saw my flask on my reading table, he expressed his love for it and how unlucky he was whenever it came to buying flasks, it was either they weren’t working well or they got bad before he got to enjoy them and this hinders him from being able to store his coffee in his flask.

I could hear the frustration in his voice and I felt so sorry for him, I knew if I had given him the flask that moment he would have been happy but I couldn’t do that as the flask was a gift from my Aunt. At that moment I knew the perfect gift to give to him.

A few days later I met up with my Aunt’s vendor to buy the flask, I got it and wrapped it in a beautiful gift bag.

Giving him the gift was not difficult as we attended the same church and he usually dropped me off at home.

On that day, before leaving his car I left the gift bag in the car, the moment I got off he said “You forgot your bag”, I smiled and said "That's for you" and walked away, before I knew it I heard him scream and he ran out of the car. I could see the excitement on his face like a kid who was given his favorite candy, it was such a beautiful sight to behold. He kept on thanking me over and over again and staring at the flask in utter disbelief.

I felt good that I could make my friend happy and like they say, it’s always the thought that counts, giving my friend a flask that will help him keep his coffee warm was not a luxurious gift but a thoughtful one.
