Monday Drumday: Working on my Chops

I missed doing a drumming video last week. I was doing a new course on Drumeo called 30 Day Chops. Chops seem difficult to define. I would think of it as general skills, but they are referring to little showing off bits where you play around the drum set. Each day during the week there is a ten minute video to play along with where the teacher, ZackGrooves goes through six different patterns. This is similar to another 30 day challenge that was just about basic grooves and this is much harder. I decided to try it anyway. It starts fairly easy on the Monday and gets harder. Last week it was based around paradiddles and I gave up on Thursday. This week is doubles. The video below is based on the paradiddle workout, but they do not make everything public to non-subscribers.

They supply the backing track with notation shown on screen. I used my tablet to play that whilst the PC recorded video. You may notice a different camera angle. I had another webcam that is mounted on top of my speaker. You may just see it in the static video image. I had to do slight tweaks in Kdenlive to get the audio in sync, as usual. I made a few mistakes when I let my concentration wander, but managed to get back to the groove.

I will try to keep playing along this week, but I also want to get back to the Method lessons and there is another community song to submit a video for. There is so much going on with Drumeo that I cannot keep up. If I ever retire I will have plenty to do. I have considered their lifetime membership offer.

Rock on!
