Keeled scales.
Keeled Scales is my entry into #POBphotocontest Textures. Keeled scales are reptile scales that, rather than being smooth, have a ridge down the center making them rough to the touch. This is a Pacific Gopher Snake photographed in California.
Here is a shot of smooth scales for comparison. This is a corn snake photographed in Georgia. Both these scale shots are taken with a macro lens.
