Thursday, 22nd of June 2023 [74]
Summer solstice is now behind us and we have the peak of summer here for sure. From 20th of June, which was the longest day in Northern hemisphere the days will now become shorter and shorter.
There are plenty of yellows in spring, but yellow definitely feels like summer to me. It feels warm and smiley ☺️
As a child I remember I loved summers the most. The school year would end around this week and we could enjoy just over 2 months of playing in the hot weather at my grandparents place, which is surrounded by forests and lakes.
Endless fun, I tell ya! Wild berries picking, mushroom hunts, swimming in the lakes, picking up fresh veg from my nan’s garden, playing with butterlies on nearby meadows, crafting our own toys… these were the days I remember as bliss. I always loved spending time outdoors and that didn’t changed in my adulthood.
Now the month of June is almost ending and I’m a little bitter, because I can’t spend as much time outside as I’d love, because my body is reacting to what I love - the nature and hot weather.
Of course, it doesn’t stop me completely. I still insist on sitting barefoot in my garden, because the power of grounding is immense. Yes, I have new hives popping up every day in new places, but who’s to say they wouldn’t if I wasn’t spending time outdoors?
I have been practicing grounding for years and a part of me wonders if neglecting this habit isn’t partly responsible for the way my body is overreacting to… almost everything this past month. Hence why I’m testing my own theory and make a point to sit outside with my bare feet touching the ground every day for a minimum of half an hour. The benefits of this contact must outweight the side effects, which are hives and swelling.
I really struggle with the idea that suddenly my body throws a fit at the contact with nature. I could accept dust, chemicals, crap food or anything generally not good for us, but nature? Nahh, I just can’t accept that without the fight.
Truth be told, my biggest suspects are stress and sudden change of weather from almost winter to full-on summer. Either of those or a combination of both have caused the accute reaction and now anything can set me off. That’s my theory anyway. I guess time will show how valid of a theory it is.
Anyway! The reason why I started drafting this article was to show you something yellow for this week’s #pobphotocontest announced here.
I have tons of yellow pictures. Blue is my favourite colour to wear, but I absolutely adore yellow in nature. It just makes me wanna smile and I need to smile more!
While I was walking around the marina at lunch today, I decided to stop and capture some flowers I walk by every day. Lillies are currently in their glory time and right after I captured them I noticed a notification from @friendlymoose with a reminder about this week’s contest with the theme YELLOW.
Well, hello there! Like I said - I have tons of yellows to share, but the lilly at the top of this post was destined for the contest. Quite convenient really, cause otherwise I’d be sitting here half a day trying to pick the best shot, while I love them all 🤷🏻♀️
Do you guys participate in contests?
If not, why not? 😂
I mean, I’m not the best example, cause I barely post, but sometimes a prompt like this one makes me wanna pick up my phone, check my gallery and have a good reason to write.
While I have an arm-lenght long of topics to write about, most need a lot extras like gathering screenshots, adding tons of pictures in a correct order, collecting numbers, heavy thinking about the structure and such.
Contests and challenges (especially photography ones) with a set theme are sometimes like a breath of fresh air for me. They don’t usually require a lot of writing, but if you know me, I do like to write a lot once I sat myself down with a purpose of writing 😉
Winning prizes is of course an additional bonus, but having an excuse to write, reading other people’s entries, making new friends, getting more visibility for our content - these are the invisible perks that add up in the long term.
Apart from posting weekly contest themes, reminders and announcements @friendlymoose also posts a really handy collection of photo contests, like this one here. You can ask to be added to the tag list and voila… you have topics to post about all week long!
That will be it for today. If, like me, you love nature, I invite you to head over to LeoFinance #threads and post your nature pictures with #hivegarden tag. @gardenhive community has a hefty delegation of Leo tokens to curate garden/nature related posts.
@riverflows is also looking for team members here to help out with running the community, so drop her a comment if you’d like to be a part of the team.
