Gandhiji was born in this house on this day

The great Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on this day in this house at Porbandar.

I got an opportunity to visit Gujarat just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit and during my visit we went to the great Gandhiji's birth place and I think, today is a perfect day to share all the photographs of his birth place.

This is the exact room where he was borne, on 2nd October 1869. And the place was the place bearing the Swastika mark that can be seen in the image below. My mother got emotional in this room and asked to stay for some time in that room, and it was so calm and pleasing to be inside the room. All the visitors are requested to be calm while visiting the rooms. And a big portrait of his parents are put in the opposite wall, as if they are seeing their son always.

I admire Gandhiji a lot because of his simplicity of living and giving up everything for a greater cause. Of course that is why he is the Father of the Nation, but unfortunately very few honor or practice these ethics any more. His parents seemed to be rich definitely, as there would be barely few others who could build a three floor building in 1869, now consisting 22 rooms. Of course the room size are not big as we have today, but may be that was the trend during that time.

The original house is maintained pretty well and you can see all the structures like those older days. It has a nice small stair case where only one person can go. It's pretty stiff and ropes have been placed to support. So you can go to upstairs and see all the rooms.

And this is the back side of the house, viewed from the top. Definitely, it must be a luxury in 1869. But then the great Mahatma left all these because his destiny were written somewhere else. Here are some more pictures that was taken from other places in the house, including the library and museum. There are some portraits which is worth watching.

And that was the exit from the House, but before I wind off, here are some pics from the outside.

Hope you feel a virtual tour of the place. Unfortunately I was saddened by the way the surroundings are maintained. The Father of the Nation definitely deserves more !! Had the people followed some of his ethics !!
