Christmas dinner in August? haha, no, but from now on we start to buy the ingredients of the dishes that we use for the most anticipated dinner of the year due to our custom. The Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve dinner is the only dinner where we sit at the table in our best dresses, the man with the jacket and tie and the woman in her most elegant dress, and the children of course.
Cena de Navidad en Agosto ? jaja, No, pero desde ahora comenzamos a comprar los ingredientes de los platos que usamos en la cena más esperada del año por nuestra costumbre. La cena de noche buena y de fin de año es la única cena donde nos sentamos a la mesa con nuestros mejores vestidos, el hombre con saco y corbata y la mujer con su vestido más elegante, y los niños por supuesto.
We carry our customs with us, wherever we go./ Llevamos nuestras costumbres con nosotros, donde quiera que vamos.
I had to leave my country for political reasons but that does not mean that I did not put my customs in the suitcase and brought them with me. Here in Colombia we continue with our tradition of Christmas dinner, the only thing is that it was difficult for us to get products that looked like ours to prepare the dishes. For example: we did not find the banana leaf with which we make our traditional Halcas, but they brought us some that are smaller but gave the same result.
Tuve que salir de mi país por cuestiones políticas pero eso no quiere decir que no metí mis costumbres en la maleta y las traje conmigo. Aquí en Colombia continuamos con nuestra tradición de la cena en navidad, lo único es que nos costó conseguir los productos que se parecieran a los nuestros para la elaboración de los platos. Por ejemplo: la hoja de plátano con las que hacemos nuestras tradicionales hallacas no las encontramos, pero nos trajeron unas que son más pequeñas pero dio el mismo resultado.
The main thing of this tradition is the family union, it is the only month in the year that everyone is crazy to sit together at the table and taste the dishes, chat for a while and maybe dance a few songs. In the preparation of food there is also the collaboration of each and everyone who has an important role since for one person it is enough work.
Lo principal de esta tradición es la unión familiar, es el único mes en el año que todos están locos por sentarse juntos en la mesa y degustar los platos, charlar un rato y quizás bailar unas cuantas canciones. En la elaboración de la comida también está la colaboración de todos y cada quien tiene un papel importante ya que para una sola persona es bastante trabajo.
This 2019 we were able to exchange traditions with our neighbors whom we invited to join our table, they were amazed at all the dishes and their flavors. It is that what is done with love, between all and with desire is good. So we were all satisfied with how everything turned out. Hopefully this 2020 I can spend my Christmas at my house in my country, I really miss the products of my land although I appreciate being here and having learned from other traditions.
Este 2019 pudimos intercambiar tradiciones con nuestros vecinos a quienes invitamos a que se unieran a nuestra mesa, quedaron maravillados de todos los platillos y sus sabores. Es que lo que se hace con amor, entre todos y con ganas queda bien. Así que todos quedamos satisfechos de cómo nos quedó todo. Ojalá este 2020 pueda pasar mis navidades en mi casa en mi país, extraño mucho los productos de mi tierra aunque agradezco el estar aquí y haber aprendido de otras tradiciones.
