It is common to hear about how to be a good person and its importance when relating to others, but who or what defines "being a good person", surely you have heard phrases like: "this world is not made for good people" or "in this society if you are a good person they eat you alive".
Most of us have heard someone say this I'm really good at math, chemistry, or even I'm good at love and sex, often said as a joke or to provoke a good laugh, other times, it could be said outright.
Under the above argument, the expression it is not good to be good seeks to exemplify how the trees represent the small details, and the forest represents the broader context of the situation.

The expression implies that, if you are a kind, caring and respectful person, you will be taken for weak, giving space to toxic people so they can take advantage of you.
One thing is for sure, the phrase is mentioned a lot, and most people probably don't think about what it could mean for someone like me to be a good person.
