One always struggles with real life issues that make it difficult to post regularly. My last few weeks were just that, organizational chaos, moving and as if that wasn't enough, emotional earthquakes! I'd better not talk about those last ones, I'll leave them as a topic for a post that I'll never publish.
But back to earthly problems, I was in the middle of a move. I was interested in the place because of its affordable price, but cheap ends up being expensive!
Siempre uno batalla con problemas en la vida real que nos dificultan postear con regularidad. Mis últimas semanas fueron eso, un caos organizacional, mudanzas y como si fuera poco, terremotos emocionales! De estos últimos mejor no hablar, lo dejaré como tema para un post que jamás voy a publicar.
Pero volviendo a los problemas terrenales, estuve en medio de una mudanza. El lugar me interesaba por su precio accesible, pero lo barato termina saliendo caro!
Literally an entire car in pieces inside my new place.
Literalmente un auto desarmado dentro de mi casa.
Before closing the deal I entered what would be my new home. The horror and disaster I witnessed upon entering was like something out of a horror movie. Rats, rat waste, rotting and damp furniture, rusty tools and a lot of garbage. To give you an idea of what I mean, there was a disassembled car (in pieces, almost a complete vehicle to put together).
I didn't let that discourage me, I considered it a huge challenge and one that opened many doors for my future. So let's get to work!
Antes de cerrar el acuerdo ingresé a lo que sería mí nuevo hogar. El horror y el desastre que presencié al entrar fue de una película de terror. Ratas, deshechos de ratas, muebles podridos y húmedos, herramientas oxidadas y muchísima basura. Para que se den cuenta a qué me refiero a había un auto desensamblado (en pedazos, casi un vehiculo completo para armar)
No permití que eso me desanime, lo consideré un desafío enorme y que me abría muchas puertas para mí futuro. Así que manos a la obra!
The kitchen was destroyed by humidity. Those woods in the floor was totally roten.
La cocina estaba destruida por la humedad. Las maderas en el piso estaban todas podridas.
Luckily I have the assistance of my friends, people full of energy and without them I would still be taking out trash and tearing apart old furniture. I take my hat off to them who are always there, they are few but we have been supporting each other for years. Our friendship has gone through all the trials and is already tempered in the fires of hell itself. An indestructible bond!
Por suerte cuento con la asistencia de mis amigos, gente llena de energía y que sin ellos aún estaría sacando basura y despedazando muebles viejos. Me saco el sombrero a ellos que siempre están ahí, son pocos pero nos apoyamos hace años. Nuestra amistad pasó por todas las pruebas y ya se encuentran templada en los fuegos del mismísimo infierno. Un lazo indestructible!

I am not exaggerating when I say that the place was in an horrifying state. Rat feces were everywhere, we worked with gloves and masks to first clean up as much as possible before we started emptying. The hardest part was getting rid of the car parts. Which we managed to do on the first day, to make room to clean more comfortably.
No exagero cuando digo que el lugar se encontraba en un estado espantoso. Las heces de ratas estaban en todos lados, trabajamos con guantes y barbijos para primero limpiar todo lo posible antes de empezar a vaciar. Lo más pesado fue deshacerse de las piezas del auto. Cosa que logramos el primer día, para hacer lugar y poder limpiar con mayor comodidad.
El patio de mí nueva casa es hermoso, cuenta con una parrilla y mucho verde. Lo comparto con mí vecino y amigo @flemination aunque cada uno tiene su casa separada. Esa parrilla y ese patio fue nuestro pulmón donde íbamos a respirar aire fresco y cocinar una rica carne. La verdad gaste una inmensa cantidad de dinero solo en comida, objetos de limpieza y protección como guantes y barbijos. No podía esperar que mis amigos vengan a sufrir por mí sin al menos darles una deliciosa carne asada! (y proteger su salud)
The backyard of my new house is beautiful, with a grill and lots of greenery. I share it with my neighbor and friend @flemination although each one has a separate house. That grill and that backyard was our lung where we would go to breathe fresh air and cook delicious meat. I spent an immense amount of money just on food, cleaning supplies and protection like gloves and chinstraps. I couldn't expect my friends to come and suffer for me without at least giving them some delicious barbecued meat (and protection for their health)

Empezaba yo temprano a la mañana, mientras los chicos empezaban a llegar.
Una vez que sacamos el auto, empezamos por sacar los muebles. Había tantos! Closets, estanterías, muebles de TV, una mesa y un banco de trabajo. Todo, absolutamente todo orinado por ratas, podrido y cayéndose a pedazos. Nos tomo 3 días sacar solo los muebles de madera, quedando aún unas estanterías altísimas de ojalata, también oxidadas por tantos años de orin de roedores. Fue muy difícil desarmarlas, estaban agarradas a la pared y agarradas entre ellas mismas. Luego de algunas horas logramos desarmarlas para tirarlas a la calle donde recicladores independientes se llevaron casi todo, sin importar el ruinoso estado.
I used to start early in the morning as the guys started to arrive.
Once we got the car out, we started by taking out the furniture. There was so much! Closets, bookshelves, TV furniture, a table and a workbench. Everything, absolutely everything was rat pissed, rotten and falling apart. It took us 3 days to remove only the wooden furniture, and there were still some very tall tin shelves, also rusted by so many years of rodent urine. It was very difficult to disassemble them, they were clinging to the wall and clinging to each other. After a few hours we managed to disassemble them to throw them out to the street where independent recyclers took almost everything, regardless of their ruinous state.
Una vez vaciado todo lo que estaba en el piso, pasamos a la cocina. Esa casa había sido utilizada por alguien que le gustaban las herramientas y toda la propiedad era un inmenso taller. Sacar el banco de trabajo fue una tarea tediosa. La madera podrida, ya seca y apolillada lanzaba polvo al ambiente. Fue una tarea incómoda, algunas maderas eran tan pesadas que optamos por quemarlas en la parrilla. Nunca desaprovecho una oportunidad de incendiar algo, la parrilla es el lugar indicado.
Once everything on the floor was emptied, we moved on to the kitchen. That house had been used by someone who liked tools and the whole property was a huge workshop. Taking out the workbench was a tedious task. The rotten, dry, moth-eaten wood threw dust into the air. It was a tedious task, some of the wood was so heavy that we opted to burn it on the grill. Personally I did not miss any opportunity to set something on fire, the grill is the right place for this task.
Una vez sacados los muebles mas pesados, comenzé la limpieza más fina, luego de una larga barrida uno de mis amigos trajo una hidrolavadora que lanza agua a gran presión. Con esta noble máquina limpiamos paredes, piso y techos del baño, cocina y el ambiente principal. El lugar ya no apestaba a podredumbre y se sintió muy bien al entrar al otro día.
Once the heavy furniture was removed, I started the fine cleaning, after a long sweep one of my friends brought a pressure washer that throws water at high pressure. With this noble machine we cleaned walls, floor and ceilings of the bathroom, kitchen and the main room. The place no longer reeked of rot and it felt great to walk in the next day.
Now the rats! // Ahora las ratas!
Ahora comenzaba otra etapa, la guerra contra los roedores. Eso será material para mí próximo post, aún estoy dando esa batalla.

Now another stage began, the war against rodents. That will be material for my next post, I'm still fighting that battle.
