Greetings friends and members of the community. Last week I was touring areas of the Almendares river basin as part of a field work doing environmental studies with colleagues from the Institute of Geology and Paleontology, Geological Survey of Cuba.
Saludos amigos y miembros de la comunidad. En la semana pasada estuve de recorrido por zonas de la cuenca del río Almendares como parte de un trabajo de campo haciendo estudios ambientales con colegas del Instituto de Geología y Paleontología, del Servicio Geológico de Cuba.
The Almendares river basin is one of the most important in western Cuba, being part of the natural system integrated to the Vento aquifer, which is the main source of drinking water supply to the Cuban capital.
La cuenca del río Almendares es una de las más importantes del occidente de Cuba, al ser parte del sistema natural integrado al acuífero Vento, que es la principal fuente de abastecimiento de agua potable a la capital cubana.
Hence, as part of the environmental remediation studies carried out by the Environmental Geology Department, we went on a tour to observe the current state of the areas and tributaries of the Almendares River; for which surface water samples were taken from the rivers and lagoons in the area, with a view to determining their bacteriological composition and on that basis propose solutions to mitigate pollution and negative impacts that compromise environmental stability and the welfare of the society related to this ecosystem.
De ahí que como parte de los estudios de remediación ambiental que ejecuta el departamento de Geología Ambiental salimos de recorrido para observar el estado actual de las áreas y afluentes del río Almendares; para lo cual se tomaron muestras de aguas superficiales de los ríos y lagunas de la zona, con vistas a determinar su composición bacteriológica y sobre esa base proponer soluciones para mitigar la contaminación y los impactos negativos que comprometen la estabilidad ambiental y el bienestar de la sociedad relacionada con este ecosistema.
It was a simple working day, but undoubtedly very profitable, in which a group of young people and colleagues of the Cuban Geological Survey carried out environmental protection tasks to contribute to the welfare of nature and society.
Fue una jornada de trabajo sencilla, pero sin duda muy provechosa, en la que un grupo de jóvenes y colegas del Servicio Geológico cubano llevamos a cabo tareas de protección medioambiental para contribuir con el bienestar de la naturaleza y la sociedad.
