Stone cottage in Sweden in 19th century

On the plate of explanation says

The Stone Cottage was built at Skansen in 1891 using laborer's cottages from Blekinge as a model. It shows how poor people were obliged to live in southern Sweden during the 19th century which was a time of rapid population growth.

The building consists of a single room with furnishing and fittings of the most elementary sort. The people living in such cottages owned no land but lived by selling things that they could make themselves and by casual work.

The Stone Cottage really belongs among the buildings from the south of Sweden.

I was very surprised by the stone cottages I found when I visited Skansen (open-air museum) in Stockholm in June.
Sweden is now recognized as a wealthy country with well establish social welfare, but about 100 years ago, some people had no choice but to live in stone cottages like this one.　In the 19th century, Sweden experienced a population increase, and as a result, some people were forced to live in these cottages because they could not secure enough land for housing according to the explanation.

Today is September, and the press reports that Japan's trade deficit is the largest deficit since 1978.　Although the corona effect is a major cause, I thought as I looked at this cottage that with time, we can build a society that declines like Japan, or we can build a society that grows sustainably and breaks away from poverty, as Sweden did.　I realized once again that it depends greatly on the policies of the country.

１９世紀の石造コテージ

ストーン・コテージは、1891年にスカンセンにて、ブレキンゲの労働者用コテージをモデルとして建設された。19世紀、人口が急増した南スウェーデンで、貧しい人々がどのような生活を強いられていたかを示している。

建物は一部屋で、家具や備品はごく簡単なものである。このようなコテージに住む人々は、土地を持たず、自分たちで作れるものを売ったり、非正規雇用で生活していた。
この石造りのコテージは、まさにスウェーデンの南方建築に属するものである。

６月にストックホルム市内にあるスカンセン（野外博物館）に行った時に見つけた石造のコテージにはとてもびっくりさせられました。
スウェーデンは今でこそ福祉が行き届いた裕福な国として認識されているのですが、今から約１００年前はこのような石造のコテージに住んで方もいたと展示していました。　１９世紀はスウェーデンでは人口増加が発生したようで、それに伴い住宅地の確保が行き届かなく、このようなコテージで生活を強いられた人もいたようです。

今日は９月なのですが、報道で日本の貿易赤字が１９７８年以来の最大赤字になったと報道がありました。　コロナの影響を引きづっているのが大きな原因ではあるのですが、時代と共に日本の様に衰退していく社会もあれば、スウェーデンの様に貧困の国から脱却し持続的に成長させていく社会を築くこともできるとこのコテージを見ながら思いました。　その国の政策により大きく変わると改めて実感しました。　がんばれ日本！沈むなニッポン！　キッシー、政策はよ。

スウェーデンでは先日行われた国政選挙で僅差で右派連合が勝利を収め、現行の総理大臣が辞職に追い込まれました。　今まで行われていた政策からの大転換がこれからの４年待ち構えているとどのような社会になるのか少し不安でもありますが、スウェーデン人の選択を見守りたいと思います。
