About the Quote
In some way or other, we all get graded on our performance. It can be as athletes or students who receive scores and grades. It can be as laborers or managers required to meet Key Performance Indicators. It can be as members of the armed forces needing to prove a basic level of competence across all disciplines. It could be as elected officials trying to fulfill some campaign promise or basic obligation of the office. It could even be as entrepreneurs establishing a niche in the marketplace and serving customers along the way.
If we perform well, we get rewarded with high marks or recognition or earnings. If we perform badly, we get rewarded with low marks or unwanted recognition or even bankruptcy.
If we're in a position to give feedback or to deliver criticism, then we need to evaluate people on how they perform and on how well they deliver the results we expect of them. The critique we give should be done in ways which make the person being evaluated better.
It's true that we won't always succeed, but total honest effort needs to be given no matter the outcome.

Before the 2008 Beijing Summer Games, Shawn Johnson had been living the life of amateur athlete working toward an opportunity to win an Olympic Gold Medal (which she did). After those Olympics, she went on to live the life of a serial entrepreneur.
Part of being a serial entrepreneur these days in an active presence on social media in service of entrepreneurial efforts. Shawn Johnson East (the name she's been using since she married Andrew East) has a solid presence on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. She also makes guest appearances on many podcasts and programs on the various financial media networks.
One of Shawn Johnson East's current business ventures is part-ownership of the Angel City Football Club of the National Women's Soccer League. Among the other part-owners of ACFC are Jennifer Garner, Natalie Portman, and Serena Williams.
