About the Quote
We could be the best at something, but if we get there by brute force-- all hard work and no joy-- then it's a matter of time before we succumb to burnout. Stress accumulates, pressure builds, and sooner or later something has to give. Even if we're the best under those circumstances, we end up as miserable people.
If we know that we love what we do as soon as we discover it, then the process of becoming good at it is not a concern. Many of us will go through many things before we decide "this is what I want to do," and that's OK. Once we find that thing we love, we no longer think about the things we did because we had to do them.
Either way, it's just a matter of time before we demonstrate compentency and then mastery. After that, our love of what we do will shine through. We may even reach a point where we love what we do so much that we can do it for free (or at least for no money).
Once we find what we love to do, many things fall into place for us. That makes the rest of life easier for us.
Some Information about Shawn Johnson
Shawn Johnson was born in Des Moines, Iowa, US on 1992-January-19.
She was an Olympic-caliber gymnast, winning Gold and Silver Medals at rhe 2008 Beijing Games.
From the age of three Shawn Johnson had been involved with gymnastics, first to simply burn off her excess energy, then in competive situations. When she was old enough to attend school, she began training with gymnastics instructor in her home town of Des Moines. After a short time training her, coach Chow knew he had in her a future Olympian.
At the 2008 Bejing Games, Shawn Johnson won the Gold Medal in the balance beam. She also won three Silver Medals: floor exercise, individual all-around competition, and the women's team competition.
In 2009 she won the Season 8 edition of Dancing with the Stars. Years later, in 2015, she would return for the Season 15 edition, this time Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars. For her return performance, she finished in 2nd place.
She planned to begin training for the 2012 London Games in 2010, but she sustained a torn ACL and needed reconstructive surgery. In 2012 she determined that she had not recovered sufficiently from her ACL injury to handle the rigors of Olympic training; as a result she decided to retire from competitive gymnastics.
