About the Quote

We can't control other people. We can't control other nations. Try as we might, we can't control the weather. All we can control is ourselves, and this begins with controlling the thoughts we feed our minds.

Just as vehicles are able to convert fuel to energy used for locomotion, thoughts are converted to action. This is why we fuel vehicles with the right fuels instead of with sand or sugar.

If we feed our bodies with junk food-- food rich in calories yet poor in nutrients-- then our bodies operate as less than optimal conditions and become prone to all sorts of ailments and maladies. However, if we feed our bodies with real food-- food rich in nutrients yet low in calories-- then we do ourselves and our bodies a favor over the long term.

Just as we feed ourselves with food in order to maintain our existence in this world, we need to feed our minds with the right content. Feed the mind negativity, and we act negatively not just to other people but to ourselves. Feed the mind positivity, and we act properly to both ourselves and to others.

We control ourselves by controlling our thought. We control our thoughts by controlling what we feed our minds. The term GIGO-- garbage in, garbage out-- is as true for our minds as it is for computers and for our bodies.

Some (More) Information about Napoleon Hill

Before being elected President of the United States in 1912, Woodrow Wilson was president of Princeton University. It was during that time when Napoleon Hill interviewed the future POTUS as part of the research project inspired by Andrew Carnegie.

After the United States entered The Great War (as World War I was known before 1939), Hill called President Wilson to offer him his services as a writer. President Wilson made Hill responsible for the publication of a number of propaganda materials. By the end of The Great War, Hill had determined that writing was not just his profession but his vocation.

Shortly after The Great War had ended, Hill returned to Chicago, Illinois, US. This time, he wanted to publish a magazine dedicated to the idea of success, the philosophy needed to obtain it, and the people who had achieved it from humble beginnings. With help from printer George Williams, Hill began publishing Hill's Golden Rule magazine. In this magazine, Hill included Psalms from The Bible, Gospel teachings from The New Testament, and lessons he had learned from his Carnegie-inspired research project. For this magazine, Hill was both writer and editor. Hill's Golden Rule was an instant success, and it helped him become an overnight success after years of low-profile work.
