Index4INDEX Card 188: Stephen Covey 1

I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.

-- Stephen Covey

About the Quote

There are people who grow up in situations many would consider difficult, challenging, or just simply bad. Most people with such upbringings end up living at a disadvantage and don't know how to get out. Yet a few people who grew up in the same conditions found some way to leave those situations behind and take charge of their own lives for the better.

How many professional athletes grew up in ghettos, slums, on the wrong side of the train tracks, or even in kill zones? Many of their friends stayed in those places and situations, and many of them either ended up in prison or in a cemetery. Had they made different decisions, perhaps their lives would have turned out differently.

Future success begins with the choices we make today.
