Index4INDEX Card 187: Iris Chacón 1

I am happy that the girls of today have it a lot easier, but the hard work made me who I am.

-- Iris Chacón

About the Quote

No matter how hard it was for us to accomplish what we accomplish or get to where we are today, we shouldn't complain or feel envy that people after us had it easier than we did. That's how it's supposed to be. It also takes strong character to be a trend-setter, forerunner, or pioneer no matter the field or deed.

Hard work is needed before goals can be reached. It takes a long time for some Hivers to earn their first curation rewards, but eventually they earn greater rewards at a faster pace. It takes a lot of practice to reach Carnegie Hall as a performer. It took Hank Aaron a bit over 18 years, 319 days to hit 755 home runs at a rate of 40 home runs per season; not even Babe Ruth or Barry Bonds could achieve that average.

Some Information about Iris Chacón

Iris Belia Chacón Tapia was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, US on 1950-March-7.

Iris Chacón is currently podcaster, and author. She is best known as the multi-talented host and star of El Show de Iris Chacón, a prime time variety show which showcased her dancing, singing, and acting skills. Future generations would describe Iris Chacón as a "triple threat" due to her high-level skills in all three entertainment disciplines.

When she was a child, Iris Chacón expressed interest in the performing arts when she began studying ballet and jazz music. While attending college at the University of Puerto Rico she launched her television career as a model and a dancer. During this time she continued her lessons in voice and dance. When she was ready, she launched the next phase of her career as a "vedette"; this French word was used in Europe to classify someone as a multi-talented performer. This is one reason one of her nicknames-- and, like Apollo Creed, she had many-- was "La Vedette de America".

The show which would make her an icon, El Show de Iris Chacón, premiered in 1973. It ran through the 1970s and into the 1980s. It was a big hit in Puerto Rico, across Latin America, and in US markets such as New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
