Some Information about Mia Hamm

Mariel Margaret Hamm was born in Selma, Alabama, US on 1972-March-17.

Mia Hamm is a retired athlete who became the first international star of women's futbol in the 1990s. At 15, she was also the youngest person ever to become a member of the US national team.

Mia Hamm attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, US. UNC had won four National Collegiate Athletic Association chanpionships during her four years playing for the women's futbol team.

As a forward for the US Women's National Team, she won World Cup championships in 1991 and 1999. Her teams also won Olympic gold medals in 1996 and 2004.

Mia Hamm was twice declared FIFA Women's Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002.

When she retired in 2004, she had scored 158 goals in international competition to lead all male and female American players. This record stood until 2013 when it was broken by Abby Wombach.
