Mistakes can be seen as opportunities to make improvements which can lead greater long-term success. Had the mistakes not been made, we would be doing OK or the same as before. After a mistake is made and we experience a momentary setback, we determine the cause of the mistake and adjust accordingly. If the adjustments are successful, we end up doing better.

Dale Carnegie was an author, lecturer, public speaker, and a leader in the field of the psychology of successful people.
As a student in high school and college he was active in debate clubs. After college he was a salesman in Nebraska, US and an actor in New York City before he taught public speaking at the YMCA.
His public speaking courses were so successful that he published pamphlets which in turn were compiled into the 1926 book titled Public Speaking: A Practical Course for Business Men (also published as Public Speaking and Influencing Men in Business).
