No one else was there :)
Okay, let the ceremony begin!
Ready... Set...
"Good... good!" the cheerer said
"Awesome! You're doing great!" he cheered further
Wait... this is the last bit!
Welcome Miss! Cosmo is finally open... :)
Many years ago, I was privileged to watch an opening ceremony of a hair saloon (Cosmo) in GZ China and these photos were taken during that occasion. I've been fascinated with Chinese culture and the lion dance was one of those that mesmerized me, not to mention that their costumes are quite fancy.
Accordingly, the lion symbolizes power, superiority and wisdom in the Chinese culture. And the lion dance is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity and chase the evils away. The dance is usually performed during special festivals like New Year, launching of a new business and others.
That was my first time to watch the dance up close, hence it was quite memorable. The event was very festive, comical and lively and lasted for about 30 minutes from the moment the owner of the business gave the go signal by doing the initial rituals until they uncovered the saloon's signboard.
The dancing was accompanied by the loud beating of drums, gongs and cymbals. And it astonished me that those who performed the dance rituals were middle-aged men and their movements were still very agile and their bodies nimble. I had videos taken and I might share them next time hopefully, via 3Speak.
It was fun watching that occasion and we were even lucky to be the first customers on that day. Talk about being at the right time and place, haha! My office mates and I had our hair pampered, got some interesting treatments where they used ginger-flavored shampoos and stuff. We experienced full services including head and shoulders massages yet we only get to pay 50% of the regular price, lol!
And that was it for some fun memories reminisced this weekend while going through my photo archives. Thank you and I wish you a fantastic day!
