La figura del Genio rappresenta la personificazione di Palermo e il Nume tutelare della città. Le immagini di un vecchio barbuto con un cane e un serpente appaiono in due dipinti, un affresco, un mosaico cinque statue e due fontane collocate in vari luoghi del capoluogo siciliano. Il Genio è legato ad antiche leggende e i palermitani lo considerano un difensore e un simbolo identitario.

The figure of the Genius represents the personification of Palermo and the tutelary deity of the city. The images of a bearded old man with a dog and a snake appear in two paintings, a fresco, a mosaic, five statues and two fountains located in various places in the Sicilian capital. The Genius is linked to ancient legends and the Palermitans consider it a protector and a symbol of identity.
