Power of chaos

Disorder is not a mistake; it is the default. Order is always artificial and temporary.

This quote was on my mind as I was looking the old, vandalised VW transporter. It was in high school when I first read about "entropy", a term in physics that can be applied (if we stretch it a bit) in every aspect of our daily life. In plain English we could say that every natural system has a tendency to disorder and that could include from our messy bedroom, to a weedy garden. Of course this is an oversimplification but I am not a Physicist so I can stick with the superficial explanation :)

I often think, as I work on something, either it is fixing a tool, putting together a piece of furniture or tending a tree, the futility of my actions. All our efforts to put order in our surrounding, seem to be doomed by the universal and invincible power of chaos. Not the best thing to think of, when you are fixing something but I do so anyways :)

Don't get me wrong. It is not that I am quitting trying, that would have been like quitting life itself but I think that we should keep, on the back of our mind, that we are visitors on this planet and absolutely nothing of what we are making will last for ever. And use that though in a creative way, not as a depressing burden but as a liberating truth that will push us forward.

I took those pictures on January 11th, at an abandoned hotel in Nafplio, Greece. If you are interested to know more about this place and see a few more pictures of it, you can visit this post, that I wrote four months ago.

Have a nice week ahead!
