Sometimes I wonder if candid photography teeters on the edge of what some might call "creepy." The reason behind this perception is that the photographer aims to capture a scene or subject without being noticed. The goal is for the subject to remain unaware that they are being photographed, allowing them to act naturally and spontaneously. The real challenge for a photographer is to capture these moments without drawing attention, ensuring the timing is perfect to encapsulate the life and action happening in that instant. It's an art that cannot be controlled or staged.
This is why I have immense admiration for street photographers who manage to capture sublime moments, brimming with life and authenticity, reflecting the true essence of the world around us.
Yesterday, I embarked on an adventure to experience what it feels like to be a street photographer, to capture the spontaneous moments of life as they unfold.
Armed only with my phone, I set out to capture candid photos along the streets and in bustling areas. Street photography is best practiced in crowded places where life is happening in real-time, providing endless opportunities for capturing genuine moments.
The experience was both thrilling and daunting, especially since I hadn't planned my strategy for capturing these moments with my phone. I lacked the proper tools and equipment typically associated with good candid photography. Ideally, street photography requires equipment that doesn't attract attention—a small camera with the right lens to capture subjects from a distance. Using a phone can be a disadvantage as people quickly notice if someone is pointing a phone at them, making them aware they're being photographed.
Despite these challenges, I managed to capture glimpses of life during my adventure. The thrill of candid photography lies in its unpredictability and the joy of capturing authentic moments.
