Ethics in surfing teacher, does this exist?

That's usually the reaction of my surfing students, especially beginners, every time I talk about the good ways to behave at sea. But to understand a little about the path of this conversation, let's look at a dictionary definition of ethics: ethics is the set of moral values and norms and conduct of an individual or social group or a society. (Michaelis dictionary). So the form of conduct of a social group, can be called ethics, so yes, there is ethics in surfing and we will see here some tips that go far beyond giving good morning to other surfers who are already at sea.
Arrive at the beach calmly

When we think of good manners in surfing we have to worry, initially with the way we get to the beaches, we are usually euphoric and fissured to surf and we forget that there are locals, workers and even animals, and we arrive at the beach agitated, talking loudly and even, in some cases, with loud sound, and this in addition to disrupting the local routine, It can give the impression of a lack of respect for locals. So take it easy, try not to make a fuss, do not scare the friends, do not speak loudly, do not park in forbidden places or in front of garages and never arrive with loud sound. Speaking of loud, it should be avoided in all situations on the beach.
Try to know the rules of the Beach

Almost all beaches have official rules that aim at a harmonious and safe frequency for residents and visitors, such as time to play football or area for surfing, prohibition or not of setting up tents and other rules that can be found on the pages of local municipalities or and on some beaches, on signs placed at the entrances of the beach. Try to get to know them before arriving at the beach and of course, respect them all, and when in doubt ask the locals.
Find out about the sea and its characteristics

Knowing the peak you are going to surf is important for your safety and to ensure a good day of surfing, but speaking of ethics in surfing, knowing the characteristics of the beach can help, for example, to understand the type of localism that prevails in the place. Localism, in surfing, is represented by local surfers, and usually follows a hierarchy of priority, that is, the elders of the place have preference in the positioning in the sea and in the choice of waves. Try to know the characteristics of the places, arrive calmly and show respect, which you can surf anywhere.
Collect all your garbage

Removing the garbage that you produce on the beach is an act of citizenship that not only preserves the cleanliness of the local environment, the garbage on the beach pollutes the sea, the mangrove swamp and can kill several marine species. And when you're surfing and find some trash floating, you should take it out and take it to a proper bin. Place of garbage is in the garbage, but each one in place.

The time has come to surf and we have to know how to behave so that the day of surfing is just pure fun and that we have the doors open to return to that angry beach that we caught good waves.
Let's start talking about one of the worst attitudes that a surfer can commit, in the water, which is to scribble or rabeirar, that is, when a surfer enters the wave in which another surfer has already been surfing, without his consent, disrupting the performance of the wave and may cause some accident, so pay attention at the time of entering the wave and remember: Scribbling, no matter the way you speak, is always forbidden!
Another controversial issue, which causes most of the conflicts on the beach, is the priority on the wave. Some surfers say that the priority is who climbs the board first, I think this is very sensible, and others already say that the priority is who is at the peak of the wave, that is, the place where the wave will break first and the best place to catch it, and I respect that too. A tip, if you have the opportunity to release the wave to someone else, do it, the ocean will reward you.
When you're waiting for the waves or heading back outside, try not to stand in front of another surfer. If you are going outside or entering the sea and a surfer comes towards you you should paddle towards the foam, getting out of the front so as not to disturb and not cause any accident.
Now let's talk, in my view, of the greatest demonstration of lack of respect in the sea, that the famous "turn around", name given to the attitude of a surfer when he passes in front of or behind another surfer and catches the wave in front of that surfer, who was already waiting for the wave. This attitude can cause serious problems on some beaches where localism is stronger, such as expulsion from the beach with physical aggressions. Going around is a very selfish attitude and has nothing to do with surfing culture, so pay attention and never go around anyone, even if you are among friends, because no one likes to take the turn.

Respecting people should not be here as a subtitle of the article, because respect is everyone's obligation, but what you see at sea, in most cases, is the lack of respect for children, with other types of surfing and especially with women. Guys, we are all human beings who inhabit the same planet and we all have the right to be respected and the duty to respect everyone, no matter if you are a child, longborad surfer, SUP surfer, body board surfer, what gender you are from, everyone should be respected and have the right to surf without having to go through constraints in or out of the sea.
In closing, let's follow the words of our master Duke Kahanamoku who says, "the best surfer is the one who has the most fun," and I complete with, let's have fun, but without being boring!

**Ética no surf professor, isso existe? **

Essa normalmente é a reação dos meus alunos de surf, principalmente os iniciantes, toda vez que vou falar sobre as boas maneiras de se portar no mar. Mas para entender um pouco sobre o caminho dessa conversar, vamos ver uma definição de ética do dicionário: ética é o conjunto de valores e normas morais e de conduta de um indivíduo ou de grupo social ou de uma sociedade. (dicionário Michaelis). Então a forma de conduta de um grupo social, pode ser chamada de ética, por isso sim, existe ética no surf e nós vamos ver aqui algumas dicas que vão muito além de dar bom dia aos outros surfistas que já estão no mar.
Chega na Praia com calma

Quando pensamos em boas maneiras no surf temos que se preocupar, inicialmente com a forma que chegamos nas praias, normalmente estamos eufóricos e fissurados para surfar e esquecemos que existem moradores locais, trabalhadores e até os animais, e chegamos na praia agitados, falando alto e até, em alguns casos, com som alto, e isso além de atrapalhar a rotina local, pode passar a impressão de falta de respeito pelos moradores locais. Então chega com calma, procure não fazer tumulto, não espante os amimais, não fale alto, não estacione em locais proibidos ou na frente de garagens e nunca chegue com som alto. Falando em som alto, ele dever ser evitado em todas as situações na praia.
Procure conhecer as regras da Praia

Quase todas as praias possuem regras oficiais que visam uma frequência harmônica e segura para os moradores e visitantes, como por exemplo horário para jogar futebol ou área destinada ao surf, proibição ou não de se montar tendas e outras regras que podem ser encontradas nas páginas das prefeituras locais ou e em algumas praias, em placas colocadas nas entradas da praia. Procure conhecê-las antes de chegar na praia e claro, respeite todas, e na dúvida pergunte aos moradores locais.
Se informe sobre o mar e suas características

Conhecer o pico que você vai surfar é importante para sua segurança e para garantir um bom dia de surf, mas falando em ética no surf, conhecer as caraterísticas da praia pode ajudar, por exemplo, a entender o tipo de localismo que prevalece no local. O localismo, no surf, é representado pelos surfistas locais, e normalmente, segue uma hierarquia de prioridade, isto é, os mais velhos do local tem preferência no posicionamento no mar e na escolha das ondas. Procure conhecer as características dos locais, chegar com calma e mostrar respeito, que poderá surfar em qualquer lugar.
Recolha todo seu lixo

Retirar o lixo que você produz na praia é um ato de cidadania que não preserva apenas a limpeza do ambiente local, o lixo na praia polui o mar, o mangue e pode matar diversas espécies marinhas. E quando estiver surfando e encontrar algum lixo boiando, você deve retirar e levar para uma lixeira adequada. Lugar de lixo é no lixo, mas cada um no lugar.
Dentro do mar, na hora do surf

Chegou a hora de surfar e temos que saber como se comportar para que o dia de surf seja apenas pura diversão e que tenhamos as portas abertas para voltar naquela praia irada que pegamos boas ondas.
Já vamos começar falando de uma das piores atitudes que um surfista pode cometer, dentro da água, que é rabiar ou rabeirar, isto é, quando um surfista entra na onda em que outro surfista já venha surfando, sem o consentimento dele, atrapalhando a performance da onda e podendo causar algum acidente, então preste atenção na hora de entrar na onda e lembre-se: Rabiar ou rabeirar, não importa o jeito de falar, sempre é proibido!
Outro assunto polêmico, que causa a maioria dos conflitos na praia, é a prioridade na onda. Alguns surfistas dizem que a prioridade é de quem sobe na prancha primeiro, eu acho essa bem sensata, e outros já dizem que a prioridade é de quem está no pico da onda, isto é, o local onde a onda irá quebrar primeiro e o melhor lugar para pegá-la, e eu respeito essa também. Uma dica, se você tiver a oportunidade de liberar a onda para outra pessoa, faça, o oceano irá recompensá-lo.
Quando estiver esperando as ondas ou voltando para o outside, procure não permanecer na frente de outro surfista. Se estiver voltando para outside ou entrando no mar e um surfista vier na sua direção você deve remar em direção da espuma, saindo da frente para não atrapalhar e não causar algum acidente.
Agora vamos falar, na minha visão, da maior demonstração de falta de respeito no mar, que a famosa “dar a volta”, nome dado a atitude de um surfista quando ele passa na frente ou por traz de outro surfista e pega a onda na frente desse surfista, que já estava esperando a onda. Essa atitude pode causar sérios problemas em algumas praias onde o localismo é mais forte, como por exemplo expulsão da praia com agressões físicas. Dar a volta trata-se de uma atitude bem egoísta e não tem nada a ver com a cultura do surf, então preste a atenção e nunca de a volta em ninguém, mesmo que esteja entre amigos, pois ninguém gosta de levar a volta.

Respeitar as pessoas não deveria estar aqui como um subtítulo da matéria, pois respeito é obrigação de todos, mas o que se ver no mar, na maioria dos casos, é a falta de respeito com as crianças, com as outras modalidades do surf e principalmente com as mulheres. Galera, somos todos seres humanos que habitamos o mesmo planeta e todos nós temos o direito de ser respeitado e o dever de respeitar a todos, não importa se é criança, surfista de longborad, surfista de SUP, surfista de body board, de que gênero você é, todos devem ser respeitados e ter o direito de surfar sem ter que passar por constrangimentos dentro ou fora do mar.
