It's mushroom season
Last week I was able to harvest something around 10 lbs of golden oysters, which we ate a lot of, and dried the rest for winter. That also was the first flush of the season in that specific mushrooms spot. So there's more to come, because these few logs produce flush after flush from now until the end of august or so!!!
We'll be making broths, and stir-fries when the time comes in these cold months and the urge for tasting mushrooms makes its appearance. For now we have a large jar of sun-dried oyster mushrooms, and that makes me really happy!!!!
This weekend, we were able to give away a bunch of this newest harvest to new friends. The rest was dried, because we still have quite a bit in the fridge... I don't want to eat them all the time, I'm afraid I'll get sick of them!
If you could learn to survive off the wild would you? I think it's an important skill set to own. Take a look at our economy right now, the price of tomatoes, milk, and everything is going up and up... it doesn't look like there's an end in sight, not yet. If you live in a place where nature is abundant, you can learn this skill as a hedge against inflation. You may have to push your own boundaries a bit here and there, especially if you've never killed an animal, or never bit into something that wasn't from the store, but if you learn these skills you will have an upper hand on the coming economic depression!!!
