A couple of days ago, my wife and I came back from a vacation on an island- a week of heat and lounging in the shade with a cold beer in hand - pure bliss.
For the field we last worked on ten days ago. But I was curious to see what had grown. And today, when the heat let up a bit in the evening, we went to take a look.
Even though it’s been dry, everything is green—the plants are thriving! But so are the weeds :(
Just for comparison, this photo is from a previous post a month ago, when we started planting:
In short, I’d say everything is going according to plan.
A few details:
Two watermelon plants—no fruit yet, but they’ve grown quite a bit.
Eggplants and tomatoes.
The tomatoes under the roof already have a few green fruits.

Cucumbers—I’ll pick a few of them today. Yesss!😋
The zucchini are still too small to harvest. Probably because of the drought, I’ll have to water them more now.

The bush beans don’t have any pods yet, but they’re very bushy.
There’s still quite a bit of lettuce; I’ll have to give some away because we can’t eat it all :)
The garlic and onions growing next to the lettuce are still small; it looks like they don’t like the soil.
The tall beans have begun climbing the stakes, but I’ll need to weed around them…

The potatoes look fine; they need to hold out for another month. I hope they don’t get hit by any disease or Colorado potato beetles. There aren’t any larvae yet, but they can devour everything in a couple of days if they show up...
It seems to me that there are the most peas right now. They look plump on the outside, but when I opened one, the peas were too small to harvest. I’ll wait another week or so before we harvest them for the first time.
Thanks for reading!
I’ll check in when there’s something new.
