The Power of Internet Memes!

Hey guys. Last time I showed off the brand new character Yinlin's Companion Story where we delved into her motivations and got acquainted with her history. If you weren't into her before, the story was a great way to get invested.

And of course when you're invested in a character of a gacha game the next step is to pull and hope the RNG gods are kind.

Well they sure were kind. In fact they knew how the internet works. I had simped a little hard last time and got my video up on 6/9 at 6:09PM Beijing Time. Because the memes were calling me. So what better way to cap off this story about how I got my first Wuthering Waves limited character than for her to arrive on my 69th gacha pull?

The power of internet memes is real lol

Anyway my brief time with Wuwa's already been pretty interesting. Today's Day 9 and the Jiyan limited banner has ended so the game's gotten back to normal after a rough debut. In that time I was able to get a total of 88 limited pulls, 95 standard banner pulls and even 6 weapon pulls. From that I've gotten all but 3 of the characters, Jiyan the limited banner character, Jianxi one of the standard characters and Danjin a 4-star character. I've also gotten several copies of some of these characters and they get stronger up to 7 copies so my Yuanxu for example is maxed out. I've also leveled up Yinlin as far as I can take her at my current player level but even with the rest of my characters underleveled I was able to button-mash my way through the first leveling checkpoint where the enemies become stronger afterwards.

Kuro's been incredibly generous with their game but I have a hot take on that. From what I've seen the amount of charity a game company is willing to provide players is inversely proportional to how successful they believe the game will be. If we go back to miHoYo and Genshin Impact, by Day 9 I was hardly as far as I was in this game. Getting the things needed to upgrade my characters took so much effort because the bosses were really difficult and the gacha wasn't quite so generous. Out of the 22 characters that were available at launch I was only able to get 8 and only 1 of them was a powerful 5-star character, a standard banner one at that. (It took me 2 years before I got the limited character from that banner and I still don't have the other one) The point is when Genshin released it was a revelation. It has defined the AAA mobile gaming space for the last 4 years. On the other hand miHoYo's been much more generous with its follow-up game Honkai: Star Rail. Players were able to get a free and powerful 5-star Dr. Ratio and several features of the game allow players to construct better builds for their characters much easier than they could on Genshin. They also get more gacha pulls as well. Star Rail is a turn-based RPG which is fairly antiquated in the modern day. Even the champion of the turn-based RPG, Final Fantasy created a system much more similar to Genshin's in their latest Final Fantasy XVI entry. Because they knew they wouldn't see the same numbers as they got for Genshin they were much more generous with their rewards to attract as many players to the new game as they could. Wuthering Waves seems to be in this same category; Kuro doesn't seem to have as much faith in the game's performance as it probably could and so it's been very generous to keep players playing.

Part of the reason could be the debut. Wuthering Waves had several issues on launch like persistent crashes, lag, overheating, bugs and worst of all, players found they could just set the dates on their devices for Yinlin's launch to have access to her banner early meaning the company actually placed the monetary system of their game into the game's files and not have an update for the game with the new banner at the scheduled time. It's a cut corner that's very damaging for the company's professionalism. Even after several apologies and compensation the game still lags horribly to the extent that you might not even be able to see what you're doing between stuttering and skipping frames. Kuro will really need to address these issues if they want to be a true competitor against Genshin and not fade away in the way previous competitors like Tower of Fantasy or Blue Protocol. This is especially true given that miHoYo's next new game Zenless Zone Zero is set to release at the same time Wuthering Wave's v1.1 debut.

But how about you guys? What's been your experience with that game? Did you get the characters you wanted? Did you have to deal with the lag and crashes? (I had such a rough time with that since I not only have to play it I also need to record it. Oy vey.) And finally will you be sticking around for v1.1?
