Introducing Post of the Month and Compliment of the Month Contests on the FreeCompliments Community!

This is a prefacing reminder that, as a celebration for breaking the 100-member mark, we’re giving 2 HSBI as a reward for everyone who joins this community by August 1st, which is when we’ll be giving out our monthly rewards!

As we near the end of July, it’s time to introduce contests to the FreeCompliments Community! These contests are intended to encourage further quality participation in the community.

Post of the Month & Compliment of the Month

In our quest to encourage both posts and comments, we’ll be rewarding the contest winners with a reward of 5 HSBI AND 1000 Ecency Points each. The compliment of the month will be a comment that was left as a reply to a post, or as a thread which contains the #freecompliments tag (so that we can easily find it). For the first month, I will choose the winners, and subsequently we’ll try to have the community engage in choosing the winners.

How can a post and comment earn the same prize? Well, part of our original goal was to encourage direct interaction with posts. Comments are an essential feature of a functional community, and when it comes to compliments, arguably even more so – when someone asks for help through a post, they’re going to want to see comments from human beings, rather than just shouting into the void.

We’ve already been working on this by curating comments with a percentage that’s close to what we’d reward on posts. We’ve not yet optimized this process, but we’re getting there. A quality comment could earn a 100% vote, just as a quality post can receive the same vote.

It’s worth mentioning that the community account’s HP just rose today (hence the low APR coupled with an increased vote value that you see in the screenshot below). Upon completion of planning our themed days, we’ll start making daily posts and promoting them; this will increase traffic to the community and generate revenue which will be used for curation and for HSBI rewards.

Our only limitation to this reward is people who have consistently posted spam and/or illegal content. We do intend to exercise forgiveness, as that’s an important part of the founding philosophy, but forgiveness comes with action proving an intent to improve. That said, we have yet to encounter any spam or illegal content in the community, so we’re doing fantastic so far.

Completion of Themed Days

We’ve already created several themed days, and aim to have one for every day of the week. We’re still working on Wednesdays and Sundays, and we’ve reached this point in the process. Any further suggestions to finalize these days would be very helpful!

Official posts about these themed days will likely be completed next week. After that, we’ll launch the community account’s daily posts about themed days.

Current themed days:
Motivational Mondays
Taco Tuesdays
Talent Tuesdays
Talk-It-Out Thursdays
Fun Fridays
Selfie Saturdays

Conclusion

Keeping in line with the FreeCompliments Community’s commitment to rewarding quality posts and comments with equal measure, we are introducing Post of the Month and Comment of the Month contests. We’re making great strides in curation and themed days, and the community’s early foundations are finding great support.

What do you think of these contests and associated rewards? Are there are any contests you would recommend? Any other thoughts on the evolving ideas for Wednesday’s and Sunday’s themed days?
