Introduce Your City Community Contest -PEACE

There is a new contest that begins this week and goes for 2 weeks in the Introduce Your City Community. The RULES for entering are HERE

@beeber says "Whatever comes to your mind, how big or small the symbol is doesn't matter. The main thing is that the topic of PEACE is in the center of the post, that it is your hometown and that you use your own photos and words."

It didn't take long for me to choose what my topic would be! In my town we have a children's playground called Peace Park.

At the playground entrance, this Peace Pole is the world's tallest peace pole. It is 51 feet tall, and was dedicated in 2005. It has the inscription “May Peace Prevail on the Earth” and the word for peace is written in 39 different languages around the pole. A Native American friend placed objects that are sacred to his tribe, including an eagle feather, under the base of the pole before it was set in place.

In the early 90's this hilltop location had been the site of a racial hate rally where a 20’ wood cross was to be burned. Thankfully, the rally was disrupted and it was never burned.

A group of dedicated, community-minded citizens formed a committee to build a playground on the site to celebrate diversity.

The 2 story tall teepee interior is painted with 8 works of art by a local artist that show the people of the world coming together in peace.
The word PEACE is hidden in each painting.

I realized that my photos are mostly all focused on my grandkids playing in the playground. Since they have grown up, I haven't been back to Peace Park. It must be time for another visit!

I hope everyone goes to find something in your town that celebrates peace and helps spread a message to others. Let's fill Hive with messages of PEACE from your community.

20% of this posts reward will go to @beeber
