Seems like it was a lifetime ago, but turns out it was a mere two years since hubby and I stopped by McKinnon's Market to check it out for the first time. I figured it would also make for a great Market Friday post, so I brought along my handy dandy Nikon and took a few thousand shots as we shopped.
Then life got busy and the photos were quickly forgotten. I happened to stumble upon them again a couple weeks back, and decided they'd be perfect for my first Market Friday HiveBloPoMo post!
It took me a minute to narrow down my choices from 124, to 65, then to the final 20 below. I really wanted to give a broader sense of how cool this place truly is, but I also wanted to get this post out before next November. 😂
I might do a followup post with all the neat little touches through out the store, with the displays, and how they name the aisles, and such. And I definitely want to take a trip there again in the nearish future, to get a sense of how much the prices have changed since September 2019.
So without further ado, I give you my...
Flashback Friday visit to McKinnon's Market for #MarketFriday
1. Walking up to the front door. This is only part of the entrance, but even still, I didn't expect the store to be so jammed packed full of goodness. Might need to rename it the TARDIS store.
2. Cool little cafe area - pretty sure I took this shot on the way out, but I seem to recall it was just off to the side of the entry/exit doors, so it's the same coming or going. 😄
3. One of the first areas we happened upon was the meat department. Talk about an excellently eclectic selection!
4. You have your alligator meat...
5. ... and your Ostrich burgers...
6. ...sitting side-by-side with veggie burgers!
7. I do believe the sign speaks the truth. 😄
8. And because they are such staples in our household, I wanted to make sure to get pictures of the price of hamburger...
9. ... and chicken, so I can compare when we shop there again. I do remember though that the prices, and the quality, for those two things alone were well worth the trip a few towns over.
10. And love seeing signs like this all around the store!
11. If memory servers, I took this picture standing near the far right corner of the store, looking towards the far left. Kind of hard to really show how big the place is, but I think this helps a bit.
12. And as our eldest has a sensitivity, I wanted to make sure to remember to check out the selection in the bakery next time we're there. I also love how supportive they are of other local businesses - this is just one of many signs I saw on displays like this.
13. Yummy looking produce.
14. And for some reason this just cracked me up! 😂
15. Not sure if you're able to scroll in well enough to see the prices for the dairy products, but I'm very impressed by the wide range local as well as more national brands.
16. More staples in the form of eggs and juice.
17. There was much more to the store but as I said, trying to keep this post to a manageable size...lol! But here's the view as we were heading to the checkouts.
18. And look at what I saw as we pulled our cart up to the conveyor belt - guess the Universe wanted to make sure Denise could enjoy some flowers in my post! 🌺💗
19. Somewhere in some pile of papers in our house, I think I might still have the receipt, but I didn't even try to find it...lol! And I'm not exactly sure what we got, besides burger, chicken, and Guinness but I do remember we were surprised by how affordable everything was.
20. If it weren't for things like the car troubles I mentioned yesterday, as well as hubby still being out of work (something we're hoping will be resolved soon), I would head back over to McKinnon's on a much more frequent basis. But now, the next time I do, I'll be able to reference these pictures so I can get some "two years later" followups for a future Market Friday.
Thanks for coming along with us while we did some time traveling grocery shopping!
Also, before I go, I wanted to help support @dswigle's suggestion in her post last week, Showing the Love, Market Friday. I remembered an old WordPress blogging community that I belonged to, that asked people to show their support first before sharing their own posts (something I know many Hive Discords also employ). So to that end, I wanted to mention that I've supported the following two Market Fridayers with upvotes, reblogs, and comments...
