Let's talk about Briar Patch Ruleset this week for the Share your Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge.
This Week's Challenge: BATTLE MAGE SECRETS
In battles with the Briar Patch ruleset, all Monsters have the Thorns Ability. Monsters with the Thorns Ability do damage back to the attacker when hit with a Melee Attack. That's why I take care not to use Melee Attack Monsters in battles with the Briar Patch ruleset. But I can also use Melee Attack Monsters according to other rulesets of battle and my strategy. In battles with the Briar Patch ruleset, if I have the opportunity, I add at least one Monster with the Amplify Ability to my team without hesitation. Because Monsters with the Amplify Ability increase Thorns' damage by 1. There are 9 Monsters with the Amplify Ability in Splinterlands, and there is also Summoner Grandmaster Rathe, who gives the Amplify Ability to all friendly monsters. That's why I prefer Grandmaster Rathe as the Summoner if I have the opportunity in such battles. By the way, Cabalist is the only Monster that has the Amplify Ability at level 1.
Also, if I'm going to use Melee Attack Monsters, I prioritize using Monsters with the Reflection Shield Ability because Monsters with the Reflection Shield Ability do not take damage from Thorns. There are 12 Monsters with the Reflection Shield Ability in Splinterlands.

Mana Cap 46
According to the battle rulesets, only Melee Attack Monsters could be used in this battle, and all monsters would have the Thorns Ability, so I chose Grandmaster Rathe as the Summoner without hesitation. Because thanks to Grandmaster Rathe, having all the monsters in my team have the Amplify Ability would give my team a huge advantage in this battle. I also added Disintegrator with Demoralize Ability to my team without hesitation and thanks to Disintegrator, all enemy Melee Attack Monsters' Melee attack would be reduced by -1. To be honest, with this my strategy, if the opposing team did not have Monsters with Reflection Shield Ability in this battle, the monsters in my team didn't even need to attack to win this battle. That's why I preferred Monsters with high health and armor based on mana cost in this battle, but I also added Corsair Bosun with Reflection Shield Ability to my team. My strategy was simple but quite powerful and the line-up of monsters in my team is as follows.
LINE UP
Summoner : GRANDMASTER RATHE
Grandmaster Rathe is a Life Summoner belong to the Chaos Legion edition. Grandmaster Rathe is a very powerful Legendary Summoner that gives +1 armor, Void Armor Ability and Amplify Ability to all friendly monsters. Honestly, having a Grandmaster Rathe Card was a huge advantage in a battle like this.
Position 1: URIEL THE PURIFIER
Uriel the Purifier is a Legendary Monster in the Life Unit belonging to the Chaos Legion edition. Uriel the Purifier has 3 Melee Attack, 3 Speed, 6 Armor, 10 health, Flying Ability, and Recharge Ability at level 1. The main reason I chose Uriel the Purifier in this battle was because he has 6 armor and 10 health, and I put him in the first position.
Position 2: CORSAIR BOSUN
Corsair Bosun is a Rare Monster in the Life Unit belonging to the Riftwatchers Edition. Corsair Bosun has 4 Melee Attack, 3 Speed, 5 Armor, 6 health, Reach Ability, and Reflection Shield Ability at level 1. The most important reason why I chose Corsair Bosun in this battle was that he has the Reflection Shield Ability. And since he has the Reach Ability, I put him in the second position. Thanks to his abilities, he could attack in second position and not take damage from Thorns. Also, Corsair Bosun attacks the target quite powerfully. Honestly, having a Corsair Bosun card is a huge advantage in a battle like this.
Position 3: VULGUINE
Vulguine is a Rare Monster in the Life Unit belonging to the Reward Edition. Vulguine has 1 Melee Attack, 3 Speed, 2 health, and Scavenger Ability at level 2. The main reason I added Vulguine to my team in this battle was because it cost 2 mana and has the Scavenger Ability, and I put it in third position. Because Vulguine has the Scavenger Ability, each time any monster dies increases its health by 1.
Position 4: DISINTEGRATOR
Disintegrator is a Common Monster in the Neutral Unit belonging to the Chaos Legion Edition. Disintegrator has 2 Melee Attack, 1 Speed, 3 Armor, 6 health, and Demoralize Ability at level 3. The most important reason I added Disintegrator to my team in this battle was because it had the Demoralize Ability, and I put it in the fourth position. Thanks to the Disintegrator, the Melee Attack of all Melee Attack Monsters on the opposing team would be reduced by -1.
Position 5: STITCH LEECH
Stitch Leech is a Common Monster in the Life Unit belonging to the Chaos Legion Edition. Stitch Leech has 2 Melee Attack, 2 Speed, 4 health, and Sneak Ability at level 3. The main reason I added Stitch Leech to the team was because it only cost 3 mana and I put it in the fifth position. Honestly, I could predict that it would be the first monster to be destroyed on my team.
Position 6: IMPERIAL KNIGHT
Imperial Knight is a Common Monster in the Neutral Unit belonging to the Reward Edition (Soulbound). Imperial Knight has 2 Melee Attack, 2 Speed, 6 Armor, 8 health, and Void Armor Ability at level 3. The main reason I added Imperial Knight to my team in this battle was because it has 6 armor and 8 health, and I put it in the last position.
BATTLE COMMENTS
Round 1
To be honest, the opposing player's strategy was also very good. The opposing team had Monsters with Shield Ability in the first and last positions, and also Disintegrator with Demoralize Ability. It was a really good strategy. But I'm glad there isn't a monster with the Amplify Ability on the opposing team. This was a big miss for the opposing team, it was a big chance for my team.
In the first round, even the first two attacks clearly show who was the winner of the battle. Corsair Bosun took no damage from Thorns when he hit the target, while Serpentine Spy on the opposing team took back more damage as Thorns damage than it did to its target. After all the Monsters on the opposing team had hit the targets, their back damage from Thorns put the opposing team in a very difficult situation in this battle and while one monster from the opposing team was destroyed in the first round, all the monsters on my team were still alive.
Round 2
Even though the monsters in the opposing team hit the targets, the serious back damage they took was breaking all the borals in the opposing team and things were not going well in the opposing team. In the second round, while another monster from the opposing team was destroyed, all the monsters in my team were still alive.
Round 3
In the third round, two more monsters from the opposing team were destroyed and one monster from my team was destroyed. Frankly, I already knew that Stitch Leech would be destroyed, which came as no surprise to me.
Round 4
Things were not going well for the opposing team. At the beginning of the fourth round, Uriel the Purifier brutally attacked and destroyed the Disintegrator. And only one monster remained on the opposing team
Round 5
It wasn't hard to destroy the last monster on the opposing team in the fifth round, and the combined use of Thorns Ability and Amplify Ability in this battle was very brutal for the opposing team, while this combo was a huge advantage for my team, so my team won this battle pretty easily.
The battle lasted 5 rounds and only one monster on my team was destroyed, while all monsters on the opposing team were destroyed. My strategy worked really well in this battle, and we've seen how effective Monsters with the Amplify Ability are against Melee Attack Monsters in battles with the Briar Patch ruleset. In addition, we have seen how effective Monsters with the Reflection Shield Ability are in such battles. I recommend you to watch this wonderful battle and the weekly challenge from Battle Link.
BATTLE RESULTS
MY OPINION
Teaming up with a good strategy according to the rulesets of the battle is very important in all battle. When we team up with a good strategy in battles with the Briar Patch ruleset, it is not difficult to win the battle, as we saw in the above battle. In battles with the Briar Patch ruleset, I usually don't prefer Melee Attack Monsters because in battle all monsters have the Thorns Ability. I usually use Magic Attack or Ranged Attack Monsters in such battles. But if I have to use Melee Attack Monsters, my strategy is similar to the above. We also clearly saw in the above battle how effective the Amplify Ability is against Melee Attack Monsters in battles with the Briar Patch ruleset. Not only in battles with the Briar Patch ruleset, but also when I use monsters with the Thorns Ability on my team, if possible, I add at least one Monster with the Amplify Ability to my team. Indeed, when I use Thorns Ability and Amplify Ability together, they work pretty well against Melee Attack Monsters. We saw this clearly in the above battle. I also have no hesitation in using Monsters with the Reflection Shield Ability if I feel that there will be Monsters with the Thorns Ability on the opposing team.In short, having Summoner Grandmaster Rathe, and Monsters with the Amplify Ability in battles with the Briar Patch ruleset gives the team a huge advantage in battles. It is also advantageous to have monsters with the Reflection Shield Ability in such battles. I'm curious about your opinion on the battles with the Briar Patch ruleset, and I would be glad if you comment on it.
