Hello everybody, how are you today? I hope you have a great day and still enjoying playing Splinterlands. Today I will make a post again about the Splinterlands contest Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. This Week's Theme is Holy Protection ruleset.

Ruleset

  • Taking Sides, Neutral monsters can't be used in this battle.
  • Holy Protection, all monsters have Divine Shield ability.
    • Divine Shield ability, the first attack on the monster will not give damage.
  • mana cap.
  • only can use Life element.

My Lineup and strategy

Some of my thinking :

  • Taking Side ruleset, I don't really pay attention to much for this ruleset just choose the monster beside Neutral and do the strategy according to the other rule we have in this battle.
  • Holly Protection ruleset, we have several strategies to use when there is a Holy Protection ruleset which usually tries to focus fire (focus attacking monster in a certain position), In this battle, we can only use the Life element so we will use the strategy using Redemption, Taunt ability and bringing monster with the support ability to increase the effectiveness of this strategy.

This is my lineup :

Summoner or monsterAbilitiesDescription
The Grandmaster Rathe(summoner), make all friendly monster have Armor +1, Void Armor, and Amplify abilityThis monster will give all friendly monster +1 armor, change the armor to void armor (magic damage will hit armor first before the HP). So basically we are immune to the attack as long we have armor and no monster with the Piercing ability. For the Amplify ability I think we will not use it in this battle, it will Increase Magic Reflect, Thorn, and Return Fire damage by 1.
Uriel the Purifier, 1st position, attacker and tanker. Has the Ability Flying, Recharge, Heal, and Redemption. This monster has high armor, and HP, and can Heal a very strong tanker. The other support ability he has is the Flying ability which increases the chance to evade the enemy melee and range attack by 25%. When this monster dies it will give damage to all enemy monsters by 1 (Redemption ability) with this ability all Holy Protection / Divine Shield will disable all monsters. This monster only can attack every 2 turns with 3x damage because have the Recharge ability, sometimes this ability can be the weakness of this monster but sometimes it is an advantage example when it has ruleset Briar Patch (Thorn).
Djinn Renova, 2nd position, attacker and support. Has the ability Strengthen and TriagePlaced in 2nd position as a backup tanker and to Heal our main tanker Iziar. The Strengthen ability she has is another good ability that gives all friendly monsters +1 HP.
Iziar 3rd position, attacker and tanker. Has the ability Taunt, Void, and Martyr abilityPlaced in the 3rd position so the enemy damage can be split with the monster in the first position, and we want this monster Martyr ability to boost the stats of Djinn Renova and Pelacor Arbalest behind. This monster has a Taunt ability, which makes all enemies attack this monster if can. The Void ability will cut the damage of the magic attack by half. This monster has a large HP the enemy will need time to kill this monster giving time for our attacker to be safe from attack while attacking the enemy monsters/unit.
Pelacor Arbalest 4th position, attacker. Has Flying and double strike abilityBecause ability Double Strike every round this monster will attack 2 times with a total damage of 6. If my plan succeeds With the 2x boost from the Martyr ability, this monster will get 10 damage every round. This is our main attacker put it in this position to get a boost from the Iziar, we can put Iziar behind/5th position but then our 2nd tanker will not get the Martyr boost .
Adelade Brightwing, 5th position, Attacker and Support, has the ability Flying, Repair, Resurrect, Immunity, and Swiftness.Placed in the 5th position because this monster is weak against attack easy to die, put here to protect it against front and back attack. We use this monster because of The Resurrect ability which is very useful for reviving our monster Iziar, we use this monster to double the effect of the Martyr ability the 2nd reason is because of the Repair ability, it will restore the ally armor with the most damage, as long we have armor our monster immune to the attack. This monster has Immunity ability which ignores the Negative effect. The Flying ability gives a 25% increase in the chance to evade the enemy melee and range attack. The ability Swiftness will help all our monsters to get a +1 speed boost to increase the chance to attack first, evade the enemy attack, and hit the enemy.
Runeslinger 6th position, Attacker. Has the ability Stun, Affliction, and Cripple abilityWe use this range monster because of the Affliction ability, every time this monster attack has a chance to inflict the Affliction status the monster who receives it can't heal/receive heal anymore. This monster has another debuff which is Stun ability, If the enemy monster gets attacked by this monster and gets Stun status it will skip its next turn. The chance for the Affliction and Stun effects to be inflicted is 50% for each attack. Cripple ability will decrease the maximum health of the monster who got hit by -1. This will decrease the effectiveness of the enemy Heal. If the enemy use same strategy like us by using Iziar this unit will counter it.

Our Formation is finished and we are ready to battle :

Did your Strategy Work?

Yes the strategy is working :

  • Iziar Taunt's make the enemy split the attack to two of our monsters Uriel and Iziar. Remember first hit the unit will ignore the damage, so only 2nd attack to Uriel and Iziar gives damage, while 6 of our monsters attacking the enemy Uriel which means 4 units will give damage (in the first round our first Pelacor Arbalest attack misses but the 2nd attack is hit, and Uriel can only attack at 2nd round) This Holy Protection ruleset doubles the effectiveness of using a monster with the Taunt ability. We can see in this battle when our Iziar dies the enemy tanker Uriel almost death while our Uriel is almost in full stats.

  • Our strategy to use the Redemption ability to cancel the Divine Shield is working but almost at the end of the battle. When our Uriel dies all the enemies that still have Divine Shield are canceled which are Time Mage, Prismologist, and War Pegasus.

This actually a usual formation we use in many battles not only in the Holy Protection but in this battle we can see the effectiveness of using pure Focus Fire which the enemy uses, but without the Taunt ability monster and using a monster with the Taunt ability in the Holy Protection ruleset.
